Delhomme Starting Isn’t Surprising

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme has gotten off to a rough start to the 2009 season.

It is not suprising though that Delhomme isn’t the starter.

Delhomme earlier this decade led the Panthers to an appeaeance to the Superbowl.

The fact of the matter is that the Panthers have another threat in the passing game to complement wide receiver Steve Smith.

That means Delhomme is right now trying to make plays out of things that are not there.

You cannot fault Delhomme for that as if he had another legitament wide receiver the Panthers passing game wouldn’t be as bad.

In the end if dissapointing wide receiver doesn’t get it soon it will be a long year for the Panthers offensively.

Smith Should have Told Delhomme

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith intentionally changed his route, which led ro a sealing interception by Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terrence Newman.

All Smith had to do was tell quarterback Jake Delhomme what he was doing.

Communication is huge part of being a human.

No matter if it is in marriage or work wheb teo people fail to communicate something ti problems always follow.

In the end Smith had a good idea with the intentions of helping his team, but failure to say something is inexecuseable.

Changing Quarterbacks Won’t Solve Anything

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers benched quarterback Byron Leftwich in favor Josh Johnson.

The fact of the matter is that the change will not solve anything for the Buccaneers.

The problem with the Buccaneers is that new offensive coordinator Greg Olsen installed all new plays when he took over.

Its okay to make a change right before the season, but you have to use the plays that were already installed like the Buffalo Bills did.

In the end when the players get the new plays down the offense will then show progress.

Will Panthers Return to Form

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The Carolina Panthers made the NFC Conference Campionship last year led by the running back tandem of DeAngelo Williams and Johnathan Stewart.

With the Panthers running game struggling many are wondering if the running game can return to last years form.

The Panthes last year averaged 152 yards rushing, but this year is so far the Panthers are averaging 115 yards a game.

What is most likely happening is that teams are putting eight men near the line of scrimmage to take away the running game, thus forcing quarterback Jake Delhomme to beat them.

Delhomme had a better game, but if the Panthers are going to win it will be due to the running game.

In the end if the Panthers are going to win then the coaches better find a way to open it, or it will be a long season.

Falcons’ Defense to Get Tested

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Atlanta Falcons general manager Tom Dimitroff set off this past offseason to correct his defense.

This week the Falcons revamped defense gets tested as they face the New England Patriots this week.

The Falcons have two weaknesses, which they need to overcome if they are going to beat the Patriots.

First, they get no pass rush from left defensive end Jamaal Anderson has no sacks this season and had only two all of last year.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady mechanic’s get thrown off when he is pressured heavily.

Secondly. offenses can run on the Falcons as they have lost defensive tackle Peria Jerry for the year.

Last week to the Carolina Panthers the Falcons gave up 144 yards rushing on 25 carries, which is over five yards a carry.

In the end if the Falcons are going to win they are going to have to play their best game defensively.

NFL gets Schooled in Court

Friday, September 11th, 2009

The end of the StarCaps saga has finally came to a close as the Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has made its ruling reaffirming Judge Paul Magnuson’s decision.

Thus the National Football League has learned in court that when they draw up their next Collective Bargaining Agreement they are going to have to take into account all national and state laws.

Magnuson earlier in the year that Minnesota Vikings Kevin and Pat Williams may play while they sue the National Football League over their suspensions in Minnesota State Court as the state of Minnesota provides extra protection against drug test.

In Minnesota laws regulate how and when employers can test for drugs and alcohol.

Most likely the Williams wall will win their case in Minnesota State court, but if they do not win their case they will not be suspended until 2010.

Magnuson’s decision also covered New Orleans Saints Charles Grant and Will Smith as they were codefendants with the Williams Wall.

Unlike Minnesota the State of Louisiana doesn’t have and state laws that protect employees, so Grant and Smith will have to start serving their suspension as of next week as it is too late for week one to do so.

There has been some reports that the NFL will allow the two to consecutively serve their suspensions, so that they have at least one of them.

The one question I have is will their bye week count as a game served?

It should not, but you never know.

This is good news for the Buffalo Bills as there has been a couple of changes as of late, which include their left tackle as they cut Langston Walker who was replaced by Demetrius Bell.

In the end finally one of the most weirdest cases in NFL history is finally over.

The Buccanneers are Asking for Trouble

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month fired offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski for having to basic of an offense.

With Greg Olson taking over as offensive coordinator changes have already been made that will have the Buccaneers asking for trouble.

According to the St. Petersburgh Times, Olson has dramatically increased the number of plays in the Buccaneers offensive playbook.

That is one of the most dumbest things a team can do as there is not enough time to get all the new plays down.

They still could add plays to the offense throughout the year, but only like a couple at a time.

Also, the plays will feature new dramatic routes that will only lead to more interceptions as either the quarterback or the wide receiver will mess up and the pass will sail into a defender’s hands.

In the end the Buccaneers of old are back as another miserable season is upon them.

Buccaneers are in Trouble

Friday, August 28th, 2009

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers promised that they would decide the starting quarterback before the third preseason game.

With the third preseason game already being played and still no starter has been decided the Buccaneers are in trouble.

According to the Tampa Tribune, head coach Raheem Morris stated that he will meet with his coaching staff, the team, and then finally the owner before announcing who the starter is going to be.

As the saying goes if you have to have a competition to decide your starter you have nothing.

However, what the situation says more importantly is that Morris is not a man of his words.

If this keeps happening then Morris will lose his team and then eventually his job as his players will not perform for him anymore.

In the end the Buccaneers better get their act together quick or it is going to be a long season for Buccaneer fans.

Which Delhomme Will the Panthers Get?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme has been mediocre since having solid seasons in 2004 and 2005.

That leaves many fans wondering which Delhomme will show up this year.

Delhomme was seemingly on his way to another solid season in 2007 when in the third game of the year he tore the elbow ligament of his throwing arm.

In his first year back after Tommy Johns elbow ligament reconstructive surgery had an okay year throwing for 3,288 yards with 15 toucdowns with  12 interceptions for a 84.7 quarterback rating.

This year will be the real test as it usually takes two full years for a player to recover from ligament surgery.

One thing going for Delhomme is that pitchers in Major League Baseball who have had the surgery reportedly have more velocity when they thow.

That means for Delhomme the surgery probably has extended his career by a few years.

In the end Delhomme’s performance is dependent on the development of third year wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett who if he was to finally develop would help open up the passing game and even possibly take some double coverage away from wide receiver Steve Smith.

Time for Saints to Cut Ties

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

The New Orleans Saints drafted running back Reggie Bush with the hopes that he be the franchise all around running back that they have been looking for.

Simply, it is time for the Saints to cut ties with Bush.

One of the knock on Bush coming out of college was that, because of his size he will not be able to endure a full season for the past two years.

Then already this year he is hurt again as he suffered a calf injury in a morning practice on Thursday.

The sad part is that it is not even the regular season yet.

So, why would the Saint cut Bush after this year?

Bush’s salary cap numbers for 2010 is eight million and for 2011 is $11.8 million, and that is not including incentives.

If Bush salary was lower he would be well worth keeping as he is tremendously talented and is a weapon in the passing game.

The only way Bush will remain a Saint after this year is if he takes a salary cut or he proves everybody wrong by having a tremendous.

In the end it is boom or bust for Bush.
