The Green Bay Packers last year had a dissapointing season last year after making the NFC Conference Championship the year before, which was due to their horrible play from their defensive line. With the coaching changes that the Packers have made they should be back on top next year.
The biggest problem last year for the Packers was stopping the run. After they traded defenisive tackle Corey Williams to the Cleveland Browns their run defense became horrible giving up 40 yards more per a game than they did the previous year.
The answer to their problems came in the form of new defensive coordinator Dom Capers. Capers has switched the team from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4.
That means that they only need one defensive tackle and they have that in defensive tackle Ryan Pickett. However, the does create a hole at the linebacker position as they need four, and they only have three.
That was the smart thing to do, because it is much easier today to find linebackers. Today’s athletes are built, fast, and agile and there is a lot more linebackers than there is defensive tackles. In last the 2008 draft through the first three round of the draft there was nine linebackers taken versus seven defensive tackles.
The only other position that the Packers need to address is defensive end, but they are hoping that defensive tackle Justin Harrell can stay healthy, and do the job.
That move may be the only flaw in the Packers plan, because if a player is injured, no matter how talented he is, he is just useless to the team.
