Can Packers Pull Off the Upset?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The Green Bay Packers get a chance at redemption against the Minnesota Vikings as they suffered a loss to them earlier this year.

With the Vikings still clearly the better team can the Packers pull off the upset?

The Packers have one glaring weakness and that is their offensive line.

Fortunately, the Packers are at home in the confines of Lambeau Field, which means there will be no crowd noise to deal with.

With no crow noise Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers can use a hard snap count to mess up the Vikings and draw them offsides.

After a couple offsides penalties the Vikings defensive line will slow up their reaction time when the football is snapped to becareful not to get drawn offsides, which should give Rodgers an extra second to throw the football.

The defense will have the crowd on their side and that should mess up the Vikings communication.

In the end if the Packers cannot beat the Vikings at home they will not make the playoffs.

Packers Feeling the Effects

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The Green Bay Packers are a mess as they allowed allowed Minnesota Vikings Jared Allen to sack quarterback Aaron Rodgers 4.5 times.

What is happening is that the Packers are feeling the effects of not drafting offensive linemen.

To be successful on offense must have a decent offensive line to run the football and protect the quarterback when passing.

The Packers are unable to do either and it is showing.

Sooner or later Rodgers is going to get hurt from the amount of hits he has been taking.

In the end if the Packers don’t address the offensive line after the season they are going to be in trouble.

Is the Packers Offensive Line Up to the Challenge?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

The Green Bay Packers offensive line has just been horrible this season.

With the Packers having to face the Minnesota Vikings this week the big question for the Packers is their offensive line up to facing the Viking defensive line.

The Packers offensive line has allowed 12 sacks already this season and are rushing for 105.7 yards, which is seven yard less than in 2008.

The thing is that the Vikings have one of the best defensive lines in the National Football League as the they have recorded eight sacks already, which is tied for sixth in the league.

In the end if the Packers cannot protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers the game will be over just as quick as it started.

Is Rodgers Already Elite?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had an outstanding season last year in what was his first year as a starting quarterback.

With a fourth quarter comeback this past Sunday against the Chicago Bears Rodgers is now in the conversation of the top five quarterbacks of the National Football League.

Rodgers last year threw for 4,038 yards passing with 28 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

For a quarterback in his first year starting that is mind blowing as there is still little things that you can only learn on the football field.

With quality wide receivers in Greg Jennings and Donald Driver Rodgers could push New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for the status of best quarterback in the NFC conference.

If Rodgers even comes close to Brees’s stats he will take that status away from him as Rodgers plays eight games a year outside, while Brees plays his home games indoors where it is always easy to pass year round.

In the end Rodgers off to what looks to be an amazing career.

Packers Were Fools

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

In the preseason of the National Football League teams usually work on base plays to get down the basics of the offense.

That was not the case for the Green Bay Packers as they brought everything against the Buffalo Bills this past Saturday.

According to the Buffalo News, starting quarterback Trent Edwards stated that the Packers brought a lot of different looks and blitzes, which included cornerback, safety, and linebacker blitzes.

Simply, that is shere stupidity as now all the Packers opponents know now what kind of look they will be bringing blitzes.

Obviously, defensive coordinator Dom Capers felt that the defense needed the extra work, or he wouldn’t have blitzed so much.

However, Capers is a veteran coach and should know already by now that the proper way to ensure that blitzes are executed properly in games is to keep going over them constantly in practice.

What Capers really did is he has now allowed teams to figure out his defense much quicker than usual.

In the end if the Packers defense is going to be successful it is going to be through flawless execution.

Can Kampman Overcome Adversity?

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Green Bay Packer Aaron Kampman’s offseason has gotten worst and worst for him.  Leaving one to wonder if Kampman can overcome the adversity he is going through.

Things got off to a bad start when the Green Bay Packers hired defensive coordinator Dom Campers who informed him shortly thereafter he is moving to outside linebacker in his 3-4 defense that he runs.

It became clear during Organized Team Activities that Kampman expressed his displeasure to the media as he has not really commented on it even though he is media friendly.

Things only got worse for him as on Wednesday July 24th, 2009 his high school football head coach Ed Thomas was gunned down by 24 year old Mark Becker who also played under Thomas.

As any normal person would be Kampman is devastated by the news as Thomas was very special to him.

When someone loses a loved one it can have profound effects as sometimes people just cannot get over the loss.

Football players are tough as we know many of them have honored the death of their loved ones by dedicating their performance to them.

In the end he is human and just hopefully he can overcome everything he is facing.

The Packers Have a Problem

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

The Green Bay Packers have the largest waiting list in the National Football League as fans have to wait several decades for season tickets.  The main reason for the problem is an absurd policy.

The problem is that season ticket holders are allowed to pass it on to other family memebers.

That means as long as another person in the family wants them those season tickets never become available to the public.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette fans on the waiting list are starting to become aggrivated with the policy as some fans have waited 35 years just to get tickets.

Some have even taken their name off the list all together after waiting for 20 years.

So, how do the Packers solve this problem without ditching the policy?

The main solution is a personal seat license fee to buy a season tickets for a certain seat in Lambeau Field for a certain number of years.

The Packers have done this in the past in the form of a one time user fee in 2001 to help pay for renovations to Lambeau Field.

The other alternative is to raise ticket prices, which the Packers declined to do earlier this year.  Currently it cost $72 per a seat in between the 20 yard lines with the other sideline seats costing $64 and endzones $59.

The Packers cited the economy, but in reality it looks more like a move to not raise their profit levels to high to hurt their current fight against the NFLPA since their accounting books are open to the publice since they are a public corporation.

Something needs to give as it is not fair for these fans that have been waiting on the list for so long.

In the end after the Packers do something there will still he enough fans to sell out games as those who truly love Packer football will pay anything.

News on Kapaman is Not Good

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of changing their base defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4.  The news that came out today in regards to Packers Aaron Kapaman and the change should worry Packer fans.

With the hiring Dom Capers as defensive coordinator the Packers made it official that they would be switching to the 3-4 defense.  With that decision comes along the decision if current personel can fit into the scheme.

One of those decision was to move Kapaman from defensive end to outside linebacker.

The thing is that the responsibilities of an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme is pretty much the same as a defensive end in a 4-3.  Both have containment responsibilities of the football, which means keeping the ball inside the tackles.  Also, both rush the passer usually.

However, there is one big difference that Kapaman is struggling with.  That being the way a 3-4 outside linebacker and a 4-3 defensive end rushes the passer.

In a 4-3 defense the defensive end is usually lined up in a three point stance.  In a 3-4 the outside linebacker is line up in a two point stance.  A three point stance means two feet and one hand touching the ground and a two point stance refers to a players standing up at the line of scrimmage.

There is a tremendous difference, because in a three point stance you fire out of your stance already low, which allows you to get under your opponents pads easier.  That allows you to stand him up straight, which gives you leverage to easily perform a move to get by him to get to the quarterback.

In a two point stance the defender is coming down to the level of the offensive tackle.  Thus the Kapaman needs to learn that he before he engages the tackle he needs to get low, and then attack the offensive tackle.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Kapaman is struggling in practice as he was dominated be offensive tackle Allen Barbre Wednesday.

If Kapaman does not learn he needs to get lower than the offensive tackle and then come up into him to gain leverage, then the Packers are going to have a long season.

Can the Packers Make the Transition?

Friday, April 10th, 2009

The Green Bay Packers hired Dom Capers to be their defensive coordinator, which means the Packers will be switching their base defense to the 3-4.  The question is now can they make the transition quickly.

Capers has been a successful defensive coordinator wherever he has been.  That means though they have personnel from a 4-3 defense Capers will put them in the right spots to make them fit a 3-4.

Another thing that is going to help them is the hiring of former Pittsburgh Steeler outside linebacker Kevin Greene to coach the outside linebackers.

The team is moving Aaron Kampman from defensive end to outside linebacker.

The transition should not be a problem first of all because a defensive end in a 4-3 and a outside linebacker in a 3-4 has a lot of the same responsibilities.  The only difference is that an outside linebacker will sometimes have more coverage responsibilities.

With the ninth pick overall in the draft the Packers should be able to get one of the best defensive ends in the draft, which is the only real gaping hole that the team has.

The move of hiring Capers is looking smart already, because of the Chicago Bears acquisition of quarterback Jay Cutler.
