A Defining Moment for the Broncos

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The Denver Broncos suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.

Champions are not made in the number of wins they rack up, but how they react the next week to a loss.

On Sunday the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town in what will be a defining moment for the Broncos.

Last Sunday the Broncos offense was held to just 218 yards of total offense, which us way down from their average of 344 yards total a game offensively.

The thing is the Steelers defense is better than the Ravens defense as the Steelers are holding offenses to 291 yards of total offense versus the Raven’s 313 yards that they are holding offenses to.

In the end if the Broncos don’t come up with an answer to the Steelers defense the Broncos will not go very far in the playoffs.

The Next Evolution of Wildcat

Friday, October 16th, 2009

With the Wildcat offense taking over the National Football League many are wondering if it will last.

After watching a game last Sunday the Wildcat is here to stay.

The game was the New England Patriots at the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos did something that nobosy else hasd so far with the Wildcat and that is motioning the quarterback.

Motioning around the quarterback will now allow the Wildcat to flourish as defenses will have to completely adjust at the last second.

That means at times defenses will be caught out of position.

In the end with such a innovative mind as Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels using it the Wildcat is here to stay.

Broncos Season will be Defined in Coming Weeks

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The Denver Broncos have gotten off to one of their best starts in years as they are currently 4-1 on the season.

As big as the win was over the New England Patriots their performance in the next three games will decide their fate this season.

The Broncos started a brutal part of their schedule last week starting with the Patriots followed by the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and finally the Pittsburgh Steelers in that order.

The Broncos weakness in the past has been their defense as they just have been horrible before this year.

Now, they are second in the league in defense, which will be put to the test as the next three opponents have top ten offenses.

In the end the most important thing for the Broncos is not win, but staying healthy as tough games can lead to injury.

It Wasn’t All Cutler

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Many people in the media thought that the Denver Broncos were crazy for trading quarterback Jay Cutler.

What people are finding out that the Broncos’ success on offense was not just due to Cutler, but due to the talent they have.

What people forget is that the Broncos have talent at wide receiver, tight end, running back, and offensive line.

When you have a running back rush for 108 yards on 14 carriers your offensive line is doing their job.

That not only will the running game be working, but the passing game will be as well with playaction.

In the end we as a society put everyrhing on one person when football is a team game.

Broncos Aren’t That Bad

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Many in the National Football League media believed with the whole Jay Cutler saga that the Denver Broncos would be a mess.

The fact is that they are still a good offensive football team.

What was last in the chaos between Cutler and the Broncos is the fact that they still had a lot of weapons offensively in regards to the passing game in Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and tight end Daniel Graham.
If anything they actually improved offensively with the addition of running back Knowshon Moreno.

What people also forget is that quarterback Kyle Orton did a good job with the Chicago Bears as he accumulated 2,972 yards passing with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on a team that had no real option at the second wide receiver position.

In the end with the Broncos drafting defensive end Robert Ayers also in the first round of this past April’s National Football League Draft there is no reason why the Broncos cannot contend for the AFC West division crown.

Broncos Can Get by Without Marshall

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall’s 2009 season is on hold as he is in the midst of a battery trial in Georgia, which if he loses will result in a suspension from National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell.
Even without Marshall the Broncos should still be fine offensively as they have some good wide receivers as backups.

Marshall’s backup is Jabar Gaffney who came over from the New England Patriots.

Gaffney caught 38 passes for 468 yards with two touchdowns and considering that the Patriots have wide receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker that is pretty darn good.

That also means that Gaffney knows head coach Josh McDaniels offensive system as he was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots last year.

With Gaffney knowing the system better than any other person on the Broncos the team is better off right now with him as one of the starters due to the fact that he will always be in the right place.
Marshall before his trail started got a dose of bad news as he was reportedly listed as a backup wide receiver most likely due to the fact that he has missed a lot of practice.

In the end McDaniels made the right decision to not even worry about Marshall and relegate him to the bench as even if he wins his court case he would be a liability as he would not know the playbook fully like Gaffney.

Cutler Situation A Mess

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler asked Broncos management to trade him earlier this week.  The news after the initial report has painted one big mess in Denver.

Reports on the Cutler saga has been conflicting, which has even this reporter beffudled on what is true and what is not.  Even what started the whole affair is up in the air.

This is by far a worst mess than even the Brett Farve affair last year.  The simple reason being is that there is a lot more rumors going around, which is leaving fans probably confused and frustrated.

The mess started by simply hiring current head coach Josh McDaniels.  McDaniels was the New England Patriots offensive coordinator last year, which means that I don’t care about who your are you are going to do things my way, or you get out.

That type of management doesn’t work very well, which I have seen myself.   An effective manager is even headed, because employees that work under him look up to him for guidance.

That means we are human, and every once in a while we get upset, or angry, over something.  It is then the managers job to sit down and listen to the problem to properly defuse it, which takes various different approaches.

No matter if it comes out that Cutler did ask for a trade before free agency opened, which was reported by SI.com’s  Peter King, the ultimate blame goes on Broncos owner Pat Bowlen.

He knew that Cutler could be a hot head at times.  That requires a head coach that can be political, but Bowlen decided to go with a guy that has the philosophy that I do not care who you are I am not going to pamper you.

That has subsequently back fired on Bowlen, which will ultimately leave the Broncos in the basement of the National Football League for years to come.

Broncos Were Idiots For Even Thinking About the Trade

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

The most surprising development of the second day of Free Agency, which was Saturday February 28th, was the news that the Denver Broncos attempted to trade quarterback Jay Cutler.  Just the mere fact that they were even thinking about it makes the Broncos idiots.

Cutler was amazing last year for the Broncos as he threw for 4,526 yards with 25 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.  All that was accomplished without a running game as the Broncos top running backs were all injured.

The trade was facilitated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The trade had Cutler going to the Buccaneers for a first round pick.  Then New England Patriot quarterback Matt Cassel would have went to the Broncos for the first round pick they acquired from the Bucs.

According to the Denver Post the trade was most likely entertained, because the system has a lot of adjustments being made at the line of scrimmage.  Also, the terminology for the play calling is much different.

The problem is that great coaches do not make the players fit the system.  They make their system fit around the players they have.

With the number of free agents being signed, along with the amount of commons sense in the organization, the team is going to be an awful one.

Xanders Worth the Gamble for Broncos

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

The Denver Broncos were searching for a new general manager after owner Pat Bowlen fired head coach/ general manager Mike Shanahan.  Bowlen made an interesting choice in Brian Xanders.

Xanders has been a assistant general manager with the team, since May of last year. Before that he was with the Atlanta Falcons for 14 years in many different roles, which included player personnel, coaching, salary cap management, information technology, and business management.

Xanders is the modern day renisannce man, which means he will have a different outlook on things than the typical general manager.

Bowlen decision to go with a rookie general manager is a good one, because most retreads simply do not change.
