Adams is Right to Step In

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Many times in the National Football League when a owner steps in it usually not for the betterment of his football team.

However, when Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams stepped in after a 59-0 loss to the New England Patriots on October 18th it was the right thing to do.

Adams told the Tennessean that he wants to see quarterback Vince Young be the starter for the rest of the season.

Last year Collins had seven interceptions for the entire 2008 season, but this year through six games Collins has already thrown eight.

The problem is that Collins is the classic pocket passing quarterback that has no mobility.

Teams realize this and are taking away the running game and are forcing the Titans to beat them via Collins.

Starting Young would allow the Titans to sustain more drives as he is a great scrambler.

In the end with Collins on pace to throw as many interceptions as Young did when he was a starter the Titans might as well try Young out to see if he improved.

Titans Future in Trouble

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Many people may think the Tennessee Titans are in trouble now they haven’t seen anything yet.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, via ProFootballTalk.com, head coach Jeff Fisher is several weeks away from inserting quarterback Vince Young into the starting lineup.

Simply, the Titans are screwed once quarterback Kerry Collins is gone.

Right there is no reason not to try out Young as the offense right now is dependent of the quarterback making plays as teams are attempting to take away the running game.

As bad as Young’s reeading ability of defenses if they were to use a wildcat offense around him with the incorporation of passing that would role him out or other various things he would be fine.

That is what makes Denver Broncos head coach Josh MacDaniels so good.

MacDaniels is so immagiunative that his motioning of the quarterbacks in wild cat formations will be the next evoution.

However, I highly doubt that will happen as this is the Titans and they how some how have taken a solid team and turned it into a pile of crap.

In the end the Titans are screwed for years to come unless Young has some kind of revelation.

Time for Vince

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The Tennessee Titans season is quickly going into the toilet as they are 0-5 on the season.

With their offense struggling it is time for quarterback Vince Young to get a second chance.

The problem with the offense is that teams are now keying on taking away the running game, which they relied upon to win.

With quarterback Kerry Collins past his prime, along with the Titans having above average wide receivers, the passing game isn’t getting the job done.

The difference between Young and Collins is that Young is a mobile quarterback that can scramble and Collins is the classic pocket passing quarterback.

Ypung will be able to make plays the Titans desperately need.

In the end this their only viable alternative.

Haynesworth Departure isn’t the Problem

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Many people in the media are blaming the departure of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth for the Tennessee Titans problems on defense.

With the run defense current ranking Haynesworth isn’t the problem.

Going into their week four game against the Jacksonville Jaguars the Titans are ranked second in the National Football League in run defense.

The Titans are only giving up 60.7 yards total in regards to the running game.

However, the Titans defense is giving up 274.7 yards passing, which is ranked 29th.

So, what is the problem with the pass defense?

The problem is that defensive ends Kyle Vanden Bosch and Jevon Kearse through three games have combined for only one sack.

In the end once the Titans find a way to put more pressure on the quarterback they should be fine.

Titans Have the Impact Receiver of the Draft

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Every year there is one wide receiver from that year’s rookie class that comes in and makes an immediate impact.

This year the Titans have that wide receiver in Kenny Britt.

Britt recorded four catches for 85 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, which was the best in the National Football League last year.

What does help for Britt is not only is he executing his routes well he also has a good wide receiver opposite of him in a healthy Justin Gage.

The development makes the Titans one of the most dangerous teams in the league considering that they already have a solid running game.

Unfortunately, the Titans season rest in the hands of quarterback Kerry Collins who messed up the coin toss last night and has not played in two full consecutive seasons since 2005.

Collins will turn 37 in December and that means at anytime one good solid hit could result in an injury.

In the end as long as Collins stays healthy Titans fans have every reason to be excited.

Young’s Last Stand

Monday, August 10th, 2009

The Tennessee Titans took Vince Young in 2006 with the hopes of being their franchise quarterback, which has not yet panned out.

With the way Young’s contract is set up 2009 will most likely be his last with the Titans if he doesn’t show improvement in the preseason.

According to ESPN.com, Young’s salary cap numbers for the next three years are 2009 $4.62 million 2010 $14.21 million and 2011 $15.21 million

The Titans would save $9.29 million if the Titans were to cut Young after the 2009 season.

The thing is Young did not look good in the Hall of Fame game against the Buffalo Bills as he looked like he did not know the offense.

That is not good as Titan offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger is in his second back with the team.

To be honest I am not surprized considering that Young on the Wonderlic test before the 2006 National Football League Draft scored really bad.

In the end Young is not smart enough to be a player in the NFL.

Gone Too Soon.

Sitting here just finishing up the Daily News I hit the refresh button to see if there was anything new on ProFootballTalk.com and there it was.   The horrible news report from Channel Five in Nashville that former Tennessee Titan quarterback Steve McNair has been murdered

The report states that the incident took place near 2nd South and Lea Ave in Nashville with another murdered female victim.

The news sounds like a robbery gone bad, but with no further reports on the situation it is too early to make a definitive conclusion.
McNair compiled 31,304 passing yards with 174 touchdowns and 119 interceptions for a 82.8 quarterback rating while playing 13 years in the National Football League
What McNair will be remembered for his toughness as he played with pain numerous times, which included broken ribs at one point.
Also, McNair was one of the pioneers of dual threat quarterbacks as his mobility allowed him to rush for 3,104 yards with 101 attempts, 674 yards rushing, and eight touchdowns being his career high in 1997.

Our condolences to both families.

Titans Taking the Right Approach

Monday, June 29th, 2009

The Tennessee Titans selected wide receiver Kenny Britt in the first round of this past April’s National Football League Draft.  The Titans decision on how they will use Britt is the right approach.

According to the Tennessean the Titans will bring Britt along slowly allowing him to learn their offensive system.

They can afford this approach due to the acquiring of wide receiver Nate Washington thru free agency.

This is the smart thing to do as many wide receivers are not effective in their first couple of years, because of all the intricacies of the position.

First, they have to learn the terminology of the offense to know what their route is once the play is called in the huddle.

Secondly, they have to get to know their route running down to the point where they are running their pattern without giving the defense any keys to what route he is running.

Also, part of that is receivers have to learn to read defenses, because defenses use complex methods to hide the coverage they are using that play.

To combat this receivers are given multiple routes so that they can adjust their route to the defense to get open.

This process takes two to three years to learn.  That is unless they have been in a NFL style offense in college

In the end the Titans made the right move.

Titans Made Some Good Calls

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The Tennessee Titans had to make some tough calls this offseason in regards to a couple of players.  In the end they are the right calls.

The first was in regards to defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.  Haynesworth was looking for to become the highest paid defensive player in the National Football League.

The Titans let Haynesworth become a free agent as they were not even close to what he was expecting.

Haynesworth went on to sign a record breaking seven year $100 million deal with the Washington Redskins.

The next decision was who to move forward with as the starting quarterback of the team.

At first glance it may look like that it is an easy decision, but that is far from the truth.

Collins is 36 years old, and at anytime he can start showing major errosion in his skills.  His counter part is Vince Young who has tremendous amount of skills, but for some reason fell apart after having a decent rookie year.

The team ultimately decided on Collins as they signed him to a two year contract for the immediate future.

The Titans did go on to reinterate that Young has a future still with the Titans.  That is very true as when quarterback Steve McNair came into the league he sat on the bench for the first several seasons.

The team was not very active in free agency, which they did not have to be, since the only major loss was Haynesworth.

Their biggest signing was wide receiver Nate Washington.  Even as the third wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season Washington still caught 40 passes for over 600 yards receiving.

With the emergence of Jason Jones when Haynesworth was hurt near the end of last season, along with the other moves, the Titans should have no drop off at all.
