2009 Week Five Steelers Commentary

Monday, October 12th, 2009

The Pittsburgh Steelers as expected took care of business by defeating the Detroit Lions.

Even though the score doesn’t reflect it the game was not close.

The Steelers sacked Lions quarterback Duante Culpepper seven times.

That is just pure dominance defensively.

The one area that many Steelers fans will be happy with is the running game as running back Rashard Mendenhall as he rushed for 77 yards on 15 carries.

In the end if the Steelers are for real their next step is proving that they can run against a top notch defense.

2009 Week Five Ravens Commentary

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The Baltimore Ravens were the favorite going into this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but went down in defeat.

What went wrong this week for the first time this year the Ravens vaunted run defense allowed a 100 yard rusher.

That means the Bengals controlled the clock, wore down the defense, and limited the Ravens’ number of chances the offense had to score points.

Also, quarterback Joe Flacco threw a costly interception in Bengals territory.

In the end we need to remember that Flacco is only in his second year and he is going to have bad games.

2009 Week Five Bengals Commentary

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The Cincinnati Bengals stunned the football world as they came back from behind to beat the Baltimore Ravens.

What is amazing is the fact that the Bengals offense is 17th in the league in offense and that is without their top two tight ends who are on injured reserve and their top draft choice in left tackle Andre Smith has yet to play a down due to injury.

So, what is the key to their ressurgence?

That would be attributed to their running game as running back Cedric Benson is on pacer for his first 1,000 yards rushing season.

That means the defense is able to perform better as they are not always on the field anymore.

In the end as long as the Bengals stay healthy they have a good shot at winning the division.

2009 Week Five Browns Commentary

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The Cleveland Browns got their first win of the season as they beat the Buffalo Bills.

The Browns still have a long ways to go, but there is some signs of life on the Browns.

First, they have one heck of an offensive line as they held the Bills to only one sack.

The wide receivers did not help quarterback Derek Anderson at all as they dropped passes all day.

Defensively, the Browns need some better talent as they are over due to be addressed.

In the end what is killing the Browns is the play of their quarterbacks as even average play from them gets a lot more wins for the Browns.

Browns Fans Deserve Better

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Cleveland Brows fans are very loyal and passionate fans.

With what has transpired this year Browns fans deserve better.

On Wednesday the Browns traded wide receiver Braylon Edwards for two players and two draft picks.

Before the season the Browns traded away tight end Kellen Winslow.

In the ended the Browns are a mess that fans don’t deserve.

Is Parker’s Time Running Out?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker gets hurt every year.

That is already the case in 2009 as Parker is already suffering from turf toe.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Parker missed practice Wednesday due to it.

As good as he is Parker is always missing games due to injury, which hurts the team as he is their best running back.

Fortunately for Parker 2008 first round pick running back Rashard Mendenhall has not lived up to his status.

In the end soon as the Steelers find someone else as good as Parker the Steelers will be saying good bye to him.

Will Flacco Get Hoodied?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Baltimore Ravens second year quarterback Joe Flacco will go up against the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick.

With the impact that Flacco has had in the first two games one has to wonder does he have it to figure out Belichick’s defense?

Young quarterbacks usually get eaten alive by Belichicks complex disguised coverages.

However, Flacco is not your usual young quarterback with growing pains as in the first three games of the year Flacco has thrown for 839 yards passing with 6 touchdowns and two interceptions.

Also, Flacco in two of those games threw for over 300 yards passing, which is elite level quarterbacking.

With the Patriots jettisoning several veteran players this could be the year that proves it wasn’t all Belichick on the defense.

In the end Flacco has what it takes to beat Belichick he is just going to have to work his butt off for it.

Steelers Benchings Would be a Huge Setback

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

National Football Leauge Draft picks are vital to the success of a team.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin pondering the possibility of benching wide receiver Limas Sweed and running back Rashars Mendenhall the Steelers could be in trouble.

The steelers took the paur with their first and second round draft picks, which makes it stunning that the Steelers would do such a thing so quick.

The Steelers are known for their drafting and development.

If the two don’t work out that means the offense is in trouble.

Starting wide receiver Hines Ward is getting up there in age, which means they will have to replace him soon.

Also, starting running back Willie Parker has shown that as good as he is he cannot carry all the load by himself due to his constant injuries.

Already the Steelers are in trouble on offense as the offendive line has been neglected for a long time and is now putrid.

In the end if the Steelers don’t get the two going they are in trouble.

Will the Browns win a Game

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The Cleveland Browns are a team that is just simply a mess in all three units.

It makes this reporter wonder of they will even win a game in 2009.

Their problems offensively is two folds.

First, running back Jamaal Lewis is in the twighlight of his career and is simply not the runner he once was.

Secondly, the trade of tight end Kellen Winslow Jr has decimated their passing game as they don’t have another option outside wide receiver Braylon Edwards

Defensively, the Browns don’t have any playmakers outside Shaun Rodgers.

With head coach fining players for the most stupidest things you have a recipe for a big mess.

In the end the Browns could become team number two to run the table the wrong way.

Carter Fine a Load of Crap

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The National Football League has been more and more earning its nick name the No Fun League.

The evidence of this came this past week as strong safety Tyrone Carter was fined five thousand for a hit on Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen that broke up a pass.

After seeing the replay you can clearly come to a conclusion that the fine is a load of crap.

Carter hit Olsen just after he caught the ball.

I can see a fine if the pass falls incomplete and Carter labels him or it goes over Olsen’s head.

However, Olsen caught the football and Carter had every right to knock him silly as long as the hit was clean.

In the end the NFL is just get ridiculous with some of its safety rules.
