A Glass Half Full

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Many people in the media point out that the decision for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to go for it on fourth down and two is a sign of a lack of confidence in his defense.

In an interview with Tom Curran of CSNNE.com, Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is looking at it as a sign of confidence.

Mayo stated that the move of going for it on fourth down is simply coach Belichick doing what he thought was best to win.

Also, going for it shows that Belichick was confident that the defense could stop the Indianapolis Colts with a short field to get a touchdown.

In the end Mayo is right this is the New England Patroits and after going 16-0 only two seasons ago the Patriots can do anything it wants.

The End of the Line

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

According to ProFootballTalk.com, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick stated that offensive tackle Matt Light might not get his starting job back.

Clearly it is the end of the road for Light in New England.

The reason that Light won’t get his job back is due to the fact that 200c second round pick Sebastian Volmer is doing just as good of a job.

That is just the way it is with the Patriots as once you get over 30 years old and when your contact is almost done the Patriots will unload you.

In the end the Patriots will trade Light get a first day draft pick, and get even better.

Is the Patriots’ Defense Up to the Challenge?

Monday, November 9th, 2009

The New England Patriots for the first time with their revamped defense go up against the Indianapolis Colts.

So, will the Patriots be up to stopping Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

Luvkily for the Patriots they have had half a season to get the execution of the plays better.

Howver, they are going up against Manning and if he sees any daylight he is going to take advnage of it.

The key for the Patriots will to minimize the errors

If they can do that the Patriots should win.

In the end it should be one heck of a game.

Everyone on Patriots Can be Traded

Friday, November 6th, 2009

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did a rare candid interview with Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports.

What you take away is that any player over 30 years old can be traded for.

Bilichick stated that the Patriots take a cost analysis approach to the trade.

That means if the the asset they are getting in return is worth more in their eyes than what they are giving up they will do it.

So, that means that any team could even trade for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, but they would have to give up at least three first round picks.

If a team is young and feel they are a quarterback away from the playoffs then it would be a worth while trade.

In the end it just goes to show that it will be rare to see a player retire with the same team he started with.

Time for Taylor to Call It

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

The New England Patriots signed running back Fred Taylor in hopes he still had something left.

With the report from Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com that Taylor needs surgery it is time for Taylor top call it a career.

As good as Taylor was in his career he for some reason could never stay healthy.

With Taylor being on the wrong side of 30 years old, along with constantly suffering injuries, Taylor will be lucky to get a call from a team next year.

In the end Taylor needs to rwalize that his body cannot handle the rigors of the National Football League and call it a career before he suffers a injury that will affecvt him afterr football.

Moss Needs to Sit

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

It was thought that New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss was dogging it in this past Sunday’s game againds the Atlanta Falcons, which looks to be wrong.

With what the Boston Herals is reporting Moss should sit out this Sunday.

Karen Gruegian of the Boston Herald intervied Moss Wednesday and stated his back was so bad he couldn’t walk Monday.

Back injuries are not to be messed with and Moss is surely playing with fire.

Its courageous that Moss is playing with that amount of pain, but if he keeps playing he won’t be right for the playoffs when it matters.

In the end Moss for once needs to be selfish and sit it out Sunday.

Brady’s Chance for Redemption

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady looked like a disaster in week two of the regular season against the New York Jets.

With the Baltimore Ravens coming to town Brady gets another chance to prove that he is all the way back mentally from his knee injury.

The Ravens may have lost inside linebacker Bart Scott to free agency and their defensive coordinator for a head coaching job, but their defense is still in the top ten of defenses as they are currently ranked seventh.

Brady knows they he will be getting a lot of pressure as the New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was previously the Ravens defensive coordinator.

That means Brady will see a lot of similar things that he saw in the game against the Jets.

The thing is though they have a great offense to go with their defense as the Ravens are averaging 430.3 yards a game.

If the Patriots get behind Brady is going to have to throw the football moreĀ  and that means there are going to be a lot more chances for the Ravens to create a turnover, which the Ravens are third in the league with six interceptions.

In the end if Brady doesn’t prove that in this game that he is back completely mentally he most likely never will.

Moss’s Shenanigans Should be Short Lived

Monday, September 28th, 2009

New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss has a history of taking plays off.

Moss did that this past Sunday, but since this is the Patriots it should be short lived.

According to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, Moss clearly took plays off as he did not block on running plays and did not run at full speed on pass plays not going his way.

The fact of the matter is that it is the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady will surely say something to Moss after he sees the film.

As head coach Bill Belichick showed in the offseason he doesn’t care who you are if your production drops he will get what he can in a trade and go with someone else.

In the end Moss is in one of the best situations possible and if he blows it then he would be a complete fool.

Seymour Shouldn’t report

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Defensive end Richard Seymour is sitting in his home in Boston, Massachusetts contemplating what to do as he was traded to the Oakland Raiders.

The answer for Seymour is to not report to the Raiders at first.

It pains me to say that being a Buffalo Bills fan as the trade weakens the Patriots defense significantly.

However, what New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did was horrible.

Many players and their families know that uprooting and moving is a common thing in the National Football League.

The thing is that some schools have already started and the rest are about to start Tuesday.

What the situation shows that the reality is that Belichick has no class as there was no advance warning of the Patriots trying to shop Seymour.

If there was then he could have made a contingency plan on what to do if he did get traded.

Seymour did take the next step on what to do as he talked to Raiders head coach Tom Cable.

That should allow Seymour to gauge on if the Raiders will put him on the Reserve/did not report list.

If they will then Seymour will report work the last year of contract to try and hit free agency.

Unfortunately, the Raiders will most likely then use the Franchise Tag on him.

Simply, Seymour has three options report to the Raiders, not report to the Raiders in hopes the deal will be called off, or retire all together.

In the end Seymour has a difficult decision to make and that is money, along with playing or family?

Can Burgess Make the Transition

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

The New England Patriots for some reason have weakened themselves at the linebacker position by trading linebacker Mike Vrabel.

With the Patriots trading for Derek Burgess their hopes of finally solving their problem lies in him making the transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.

While there are many similarities between a 4-3 defensive end and a 3-4 outside linebacker there are still enough differences that can make a player fail at outside linebacker.

The big difference is that an outside linebacker has to go out in pass coverage from time to time.

Any good quarterback that sees Burgess out in coverage will take advantage of it.

So, if Burgess is going to be a difference maker this year he is going to have to be exclusively a pass rusher this year.

Then when they are comfortable with his pass coverage skills they can then use him in coverage.

In the end Burgess’s play will be the deciding factor for the Patriots being an elite unit or not.
