NFL Getting Out of Control with Stadiums

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

News coming out of Miami is that if the Dolphins don’t make major improvements to their stadium they will lose the ability to host the Superbowl.

Finally, the National Football League has gone to far with stadiums.

Frank Supovitz the NFL’s senior vice president of events told the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce of the needed upgrades.

One of the demands is a roof like in Arizona and Dallas to prevent rain like what happened in the Superbowl between the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.

Really? Come on already you guys are getting ridiculous already.

I understand that warm weather is more ideal for the optimum Superbowl experience.

To sit there and try to completely eliminate weather is absolute a bunch of crap as weather is apart of the game.

Fortunately teams like the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers don’t have to worry due to cold weather in the winter.

In the end the NFL is just setting itself up for more trouble as the NFLPA will use this news for ammunition in collective bargaining negotiations.

Trade for Thigpen is Boggling

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins got a dose of bad new yesterday wheb they found out quarterback Chad Pennington went down for the year.

To fill the void the Dolphins went out and traded for a young quarterback instead of a veteran.

Veterans are able to come in and perform better do to the fact theu have seen it all and a lot of the plays are similar.

If Thigpen were to come in against the New England Patriots or New York Jets the Dolphins would look foolish.

In the end all they are doing is creating a quarterback controversy, which is a huge pain in the ass.

Time for Pennington to Hang them Up

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins were led to the playoffs by quarterback Chad Pennington who stayed healthy all year.

However, Pennington suffered another shoulder injury, which should force Pennington into retirement.

Pennington before last year missed games all the time due to shoulder injuries.

With another shoulder injury Pennington’s shoulder simply cannot withstand the rigors of the National Football League.

In the end Pennington needs to retire before another injury renders his arm useless.

All of Dolphins Nation on Long

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins took offensive tackle Jake Long to be their franchise left tackle for the next decade, which he looked like after the 2008 season.

However, after two games all of the Dolphin nation is worried about Long.

Long has given up three sacks in the first two games of the regular season.

On top of that according to the Miami Herald, Longs number of snaps one on one with defensive ends went down from 28 in week one against Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham to 13 against Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freene.

With the Dolphins going against the San Diego Chargers again that number will probably be low again.

There are two possibilities for Long’s struggle and those are that either Long is hurt and the Dolphins are not reporting it or teams have found a weakness with Long and are exploiting it.

In the end either which way if things continue to go this way Long is going to find himself watching instead of playing.

The Miami Dolphins took offensive tackle Jake Long to be their franchise left tackle for the next decade, which he looked like after the 2008 season.

However, after two games all of the Dolphin nation is worried about Long.

Even the Dolphins are worried about Long as in the Dolphins week two game the team limited the number of snaps that Long went one on one with Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney to 13.

According to the Miami Herald, that is down from 28 snaps that Long went one on one in week one with Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham.

In the end either Long is hurt or teams have found a weakness that they are able to explpoit.

The Dolphins Comeback to Reality

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins were the toast of the National Football League with their remarkable turn around from 1-15 record in 2007 to 11-5 in 2008.

The fact of the matter is that already after one game the Dolphins were brought back to reality.

What propelled the Dolphins to their record was the Wildcat offense, which to the NFL by storm last year.

However, teams are already catching on as both times the Dolphins ran it in their loss to the Atlanta Falcons it was stuffed.

The problem is that besides wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. the Dolphins other starting wide receiver Davone Bess who is only going into his second year.

The fact of the matter is that the Dolphins are the youngest team in the league, which will lead to some growing pains
In the end it will be a long season for Dolphin fans.

Will Teams Tame the Dolphin’s Wildcat?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

The Miami Dolphins made the Wildcat offense the thing to copy in the National Football League last year.

Now, with a whole year of game film on the offense can teams tame the Wildcat?

Right now the offense is a gimmick that most likely will have run its course in a couple of years just like most gimmicks.

The reason being that teams catch on quickly to the weak points of a offense and then exploit it, thus forcing offenses to always be constantly changing.

This year the evolution of the Wildcat is going to have to be more passing, which we saw a glimpse of last year.

Some teams passed the ball out of the offense, but for the most part teams just used running plays out of it.

If teams do not start passing out of the formation just as much as running all teams will do is blitz and nullify it.

With the Dolphins outbox thinking on this they will most likely be the team that we will see the next evolution of the offense from.

In the end the Wildcat will be just as quickly over with as it rise to popularity, which means it will be pretty much gone except for a few short yardage downs.

Pennington Better Watch Out

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Chad Pennington to be the present of the team with 2008 second round pick quarterback Chad Henne to be the future.  Come training camp the future could be now.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinnel, via ProFootballTalk.com, Henne ran the first string offense, which head coach Tony Sporano stated he did a good job at.

The more interesting part is the growth of his ability to recognize defenses in a practice that was purposely planned to be almost like a game.

The author of the article, who is Omar Kelly, reported this observation of Henne practicing, “The practice didn’t feature many highlights or low points. But watching Henne make checks at the line of scrimmage, routinely calling audibles into better plays, showed the coaches and his teammates exactly how far the 2008 second-round pick has come in one full year.”

The key for a quarterback to be successful in the National Football League is the ability to recognize defenses that way he can put wide recievers in a better position to play, thus minimizing the potential for interceptions.

This is especially crucial with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick who’s defenses eat young quarterbacks who are not good at reading defenses alive.

With Bill Parcells heading up the football side of the Dolphins, if Henne gives any inkling that the Dolphins have a better chance at winning with Henne Parcells will not be afraid to tell Sparano to make the move.

Dolphins Need to Shut Up

Monday, June 8th, 2009

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been saying things that have caught the attention of Miami Dolphin players.  If these players knew what was best for the team they would shut up.

National Football League players save their trash talking for on the field, but sometimes that can spill over into the media.

Ryan’s antics have already caught the attention of Dolphins linebackers Channing Crowder and Joey Porter.

Porter is known for trash talking in the media, which goes all the way back to his days with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

However, there is a certain point where the trash talk becomes a huge dsitractiong.

When playrs start talking trash in the media it attracts additional medai members, because it is always a good story.

The eventually they start asking other members of the team about this, which a lot do not care for.

That is when it becomes a problem as players get out of their work routines due to the distractions.

Take for instance Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco who has been asking for a trade request for several years now.

Last year it upset him so much that he could not get past the distraction of not being traded, which caused him not to work out.  That ultimately caused his production to drop last year.

So, if the Dolphins knew what was best for them they close their mouths and if they cannot do it themselves then someone needs to do it for them.

You can bet on that happening with Bill Parcells vice president of football operations for the Dolphins.

Dolphins Should Go With Cornerback

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins are facing a big decision with their pick at 25th spot.  Their pick should be a cornerback.

The AFC East now have two teams that have dual threat wide receivers in the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills.

Also, cornerback Will Allen is in the last year of his deal.  Evem at 31 next year Allen will get a pretty sizeable contrac that the Dolphins will most likely not want to play.

This is the best route for the Dolphins to take, because there is always one cornerback near the end of the first round that turns out to be solid every year.

With Bill Parcells at the helm of the Miami Dolphins draft the Dolphins have a good shot at getting it right.

The good thing about cornerbacks is that they usually do not take long to develop into starters.

Their first year rookie cornerbacks serve as the nickle and dime cornerback, which seems some action each game.  Then in their second year they take over as the starter.

So, cornerback would be the ideal scenario for the Dolphins, but do not discount them trading down as they are still building.
