Everyone is on Notice

Friday, November 20th, 2009

When Dick Jauron was the Buffalo Bils head coach many players got away with things.

However, with Perry Fewell the head coach now things will change at one Bills drive.

Fewell is a intense person that will not tolerate consistent screw ups from his players.

Just in the first practice under him there was noticble change as they in pads and hitting on Wednesday when they never did it before.

Also, there were reports that Fewell got into players faces for consistent false starts and offsides.

In the end there is finally hope that this year will not be as bad as it has been.

Bills Have a Good Chance at Top Coaches

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Buffalo News columnist Jerry Sullivan made his usual appearance on WGR 550 painting the Buffalo Bills as a tough sell to top coaches.

The fact of the matter is that the Bills have a good of shot as any.

Sullivan painted the Bills as a tough sell with their annual game in Toronto and their cash to cap system.

The fact is coaches don’t care where their team plays what matters is that they win.

As for the cash to cap system that doesn’t, becasue the Denver Broncos use the same very accounting system when Mike Shanahan was head coach.

The cash to cap accounting philosophy is just merely a way to keep players salaries within reasonability as the salary cap has gotten out of control due to the method of figuring it out.

The fact the matter is there are two things that matter the most to the top coaches is being paid what they want and complete control of football operations.

In the end the reality is Wilson realizes his time is running out and if he doesn’t go all out this time he will never win a Superbowl before he passes.

A Shrewd Move by Bills

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

The Buffalo Bills have already found their next quarterback of the future in Brian Brohm off the Green Bay Packers practice squad.

The move was one of the shrewest moves that any franchise could have done.

Brohm was a second round pick for the Packers in 2008 and at one point was thought to be the dirst overall pick.

Many people may be skeptical if Brohm is any good since he was on the practice squad.

However, that was more likely the Packers stashing a quarterback for future considerations.

With Brohm riding the bench all last year and most of this year once he gets the playbook down he should be able to start for the last four or five games.

I will give Bills COO Russ Breandon credit he obtained one of the more highly thought of younf backup quarterbacks without ever giving up a draft pick.

With th Bills contacting Shanahn you have to wonder if he told the Bills he be more inclined to take the job if they signed Brohm.

In the end Bills fans have a reason to watch the rest of the season.

Shanahan Would be a Welcomed Sight

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, via ProFootballTalk.com, the Buffalo Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan about their head coach vacancy.

If the Bills were to finangle Shanahan it would be a welcomed sight.

Shanahan knows how to build an offense and what real quarterbacks look like.

With a vastly improved offense the defense should be better as well.

The only concern that I have is his ability to build defenses, which has been his achilies heal.

In the end the Bills would be foiolish not to give him the keys to the car and backup a brinks truck.

Guy and Modrak isn’t the Problem

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Buffalo Bills fans are pointing to assistant general manager Tom Modrak and pro personell man John Guy.

Thr fact of the matter is the problems is not them, but the person making the decisions.

People forget that Guy hit on linebacker London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes, along with defensive tackle Sam Adams.

As for Modrak and the scouting department they hit on safety Jarius Byrd, defensive end Aaron Schobel, Jason Peters, and several others.

If the rumour is true that Bills owner Ralph Wilson will hire a real general manager and then he cleans house so be it.

In the end Bills fand need to accept the net general managers decision even if it is to keep Modrak and Guy.

The Path to 3-13

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The Buffalo Bills named Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback this Sunday.

With interim head coach Perry Fewell continuing Jauron’s work there is not a shadow of a doubt that the Bills will lose their remaining games.

Fitzpatrick is more willing to throw it into double coverage than quarterback Trent Edwards, but he has a major flaw.

That being he doesn’t have the arm strength to throw deep balls to wide receivers in stride.

To me it looks like Perry Fewell is trying to separate himself from Jauron to try and keep his job with the next head coach.

Benching Edwards is ridiculous as he did a good job until his one interception.

Chaning quarterback does nothing about the defense that can’t stop a grandma from running through them as the linebackers cannot shed blocks or defensive tackles Kyle Williams and Spencer Johnson can’t keep them off them.

In the end if Fewell really wants to establish an identity he would blitz the living hell to stop the Jacksonville Jaguars running game led by running back Maurice Jones-Drew and if he doesn’t fire him and then make special teams coach Bobby April.

Linebacker Problem is Self Inflicted

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Many Buffalo Bills fans have been critical of the play of the linebackers as they have been lack luster this year.

Unfortunately, the Bills have nobody else to blame but themselves.

The Bills just last year  had a solid linebacker core that comprised of Angelo Crowell, Paul Poszluzny, Kawika Mitchel, and Jon Digorgio.

The team let Crowell go after he decided to have arthroscopic knee surgery without letting the team know before hand.
Also, the Bills had linebacker Mario Haggan who they did not resign after 2007 and is now a starter with the Denver Broncos.
As for Digiorgio he is out until about January as he had microfracture knee surgery this past summer.

Digiorgio is on pace to be fully healed by January and the Bills are eligible to resign him there after.

Digiorgio in 2007 started 14 games for an injured Paul Poszluzny who broke his arm and recorded 86 tackle 27 assists and two sacks.

If Digiorgio returned to form he would be a suitable answer at the weakside linebacker spot.

In the end if the Bills didn’t shoot themselves in the foot with the linebackers the defense wouldn’t be as bad.

Its Time for a Philosophy

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The Buffalo Bills are a franchise that clearly has lost its way.

As Mike Lombardi of NationalFootballPost.com stated on WGR 550 its time for the Bills to develop a philosophy.

The Bills identity should be a big tough team that can run and stop the run.

The Bills offensive line last year was fine and all it needed was a center, but the front office doolishly blew up the line.

The bigger issue is defensive tackle as it is clear that Spencer Johnson and Kyle Williams cannot cut it.

The way they can easily fix it is switch to a 3-4 defense, which is better for run blocking and diguising coverages.

First they will have to cut Johnson and Williams as there will be no room for them with a 3-4 only needing one starting defensive tackle and a backup, which will be Marcus Stroud and John McCargo.

Then you can switch defensive end Aaron Maybin to outside linebacker to be the pass rushing linebacker like Demarcus Ware and Terrell Suggs.

At the other outside linebacker spot you can have a competition between Nic Harris and Keith Ellison.

Then at inside linebacker you would have Kawika Mitchel and Paul Poszluzny with the defensive back field remaining the same.

The offense needs to become a run first team that needs a quarterback that will embrace the cold weather as the last three of the last four Bills franchise quarterbacks in Trent Edwards, JP Losman, and Rob Johnson all cam from Southern California.

At quarterback right now I would bring in Drew Willey as a practice squad quarterback to develop to at least by a viable back up.

As for the offensive line I would not change any of the starters as they are all rookie starters this year and should get better with experience.

At the skilled positions you just have to start James Hardy or Steve Johnson to find out if either can be the second wide receiver.

In the end the organization as a whole needs a make over from top to bottom and needs tough, rugged, and firey people.

Just Call Me Crazy

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

With Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson firing head coach Dick Jauron all the different possibilities of head coaches are coming into play.

One that Bills fans should consider, even though it sounds crazy at first, is the rehiring of Gregg Williams.

With Williams as the head coach Wilson won’t have to clean out the front office, since Williams worked with them when he was head coach of the Bills.

Also, Williams is a hot commodity again for the job he has done with the New Orleans Saints defense.

Even Peter King of Si.com wrote in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that Williams was essentially a elite quarterback away from being in the playoffs.

That quarterback was Drew Brees as Williams wanted him, but the Bills couldn’t trade up to get him.

In the end people need to remember that Wilson is 91 and he know his time is running out.

Finally!!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

The Buffalo Bills had high hopes for this season, but that is quickly down the drain.

Finally, Bills fans have gotten their wish as head coach Dick Jauron has been fired.

The question is now what direction the offense will take as offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt should have the autonimy to take the offense in whatever direction he so chooses.

In the end the rest of the year will be fun as anything can happen now.
