A couple of weeks ago Pro Football Talk pointed out that Minnesota Federal Judge Susan Nelson recently mediated a case before it went to trial, and that is what editor Mike Florio would do.
Well he was right on the mark.
According to a tweet by Bob Glauber of Newsday, Nelson has urged the two to federal mediation supervised by her. You can bet that will happen as if either side refuses it will only prove the oppositions case.
According to a tweet by Boston Globe’s Greg Bedrard, Judge Nelson went on to state something oddly familiar.
“This is a matter that should be resolved,” Nelson said. “A lot of folks are impacted.”
This shifts the leverage into the players favor and makes the NFLPA look like a fool as Nelson basically stated the same thing the NFL has been stating. Essentially, it is a cold hard slap right across the face of the NFLPA who walked away from mediation.
Also, what Nelson’s comments does is force the NFLPA off its absurd demand of 10 years worth fully audited financial statements.
So, from here you can expect sometime next week for the two to reconvene for mediation sessions with Nelson supervising. Once in mediation the players will make their absurd demand, but Nelson will tell the NFLPA to take what it can get and go from there. Once the a compromise is reached on the financial statements things should get going.
In the end, if the mediation sessions results in nothing you can expect Nelson to rule in favor of the party who was willing to compromise the most.
