Bills almost bagged a Fox

When Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix introduced head coach Chan Gailey he stated had numerous coaches call about the position.

Another detail of that search was revealed today as the Bills almost bagged a Fox.

According to ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas, league sources stated that before the season soon to be former Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox was a candidate for the Bills opening. However, Fox then elected to finish out his contract with the Panthers.

That turned out to be a foolish move as the Panthers dumped a lot of veterans in trying to go younger.  That resulted in the National Football League’s worst record in 2-13. Even if the Panthers win their last game their 3-13 record would still be the worst in the NFL.

That doesn’t mean Fox is a terrible coach as he is far from it.  He led the Panthers to the Superbowl in following the 2004, but eventually fell to the New England Patriots.

The fact of the matter is that even the great head coaches in football with bad talent will lose.

In the end, in the right opportunity Fox will lead another team to the Superbowl.
