On the football field there is a lot of trash talking, along with the occasional threat when things get heated, but there is never any room from threats off the field.
For that very reason Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham should be fined.
According to the Detroit Free Press Cunningham is upset over a couple of blocks Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has thrown.
“All I can say to Ricky Williams — I want him to know this — if he hits one of our DBs in the back on a crack block, then I’m coming on the field,” Cunningham said. “I mean, he’s had a couple of knockouts, but they’ve been nonlegal. I’ll just put it as that.”
That is probably the most unprofessional thing that I have head a professional coach say. What Cunningham should have done is bring the blocks to the attention of the National Football League and they most likely would have done something.
In the end, Cunningham will be lucky to come away from this unscathed.
