Raiders didn’t do their homework

According to the Mobile Press-Register, via Pro Football Talk, former Oakland Raiders quarterback hit a new low as he was arrested today as a part of an undercover  investigation for the possession of codeine.

What the arrest shows is that the Raiders didn’t do their homework on Russell.

There have been reports before of teams having trouble getting back ground information from friends and family of  a draft from where he grew up.

The Raiders look to be one of those teams as apparently there have been rumors for a while now that Russell had a codeine addiction.

One of the things that I am surprised that nobody has reported on yet is if teams investigate the people that a draft pick surrounds himself with in regards to if they have criminal records.

In the end, this just goes to show that some teams need to do better when it comes to scouting.

Are Colts and Patriots playing with fire?

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s contract are set to expire after the 2010 season, but both teams are content to wait until the collective bargaining agreement is settled.

That has got me wondering if they are playing with fire.

Both teams are planning to use the franchise tag in 2010 or whenever play resumes.

The problem is there might not be a franchise tag still in after 2010.

Also, franchise quarterbacks are hard to come by and due to this franchise qb’s hold a lot of power in a organization.

That means if they piss of Manning and Brady too much both could request a trade or play out the two franchsie tags a team is allowed, and then walk away a free agent.

In the end, the best thing for the Colts and Patriots is to just get something done now.
