Goodell needs to step it up

Standard

According to NBCWashington, via ProFootballTalk.com, Washington Redskins cornerback, and brother of Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, Byron Westbrook was arrested Friday for suspicion of drunk driving.

Simply, it is time for National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell to step up the penalties of the Personal Conduct Policy.

Even during the regular season when players are under the eyes of their teams players still find ways to get arrested.

Has the Personal Conduct Policy done anything?

Yes, it has worked to the point where the days in between arrests are larger, but not large enough.

In the end every set of rules needs tweaking as nothing ever stays the same.

Homgren taking right approach

Standard

The Cleveland Browns hired Superbowl winning head coach Mike Holmgren to take over the football operations of the Browns.

In light of his comments today in the News-Herald, via ProFootballTalk.com, Holmgren is taking the right approach with Browns.

According to the report, the Browns will mainly build through the draft and will ne selective in free agebcy.

That is the way yoyu build a team as the little things like chemistry and communication matter a lot.

Teams that have built through free agency don’t usually win consistently.

In the end Browns fans are just gonna have to be paitient.

What to expect from Leinart in 2010

Standard

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart will take over control of the starting offense for the retired Kurt Warner.

With sitting behind Warner for the past two season Leinart expextations will be high.

Most quarterbacks that sit on the bench for a couple of season and then step in usually are successful.

The reasons being theu know all the plays, terminology, reads, and timing of the routes.

In the end this is the year that will define Leinart as a player.

Defense should still be on Falcons’ minds

Standard

The Atlanta Falcons missed the playoffs last year after making the playoffs in 2008.

If the Falcons are going to get back to it in 2010 the Falcons need address their defense further.

The obvious main reason is that they are in a division with the Superbowl Champions New Orleans Saints.

In addition to the Saints fellow division rival Carolina Panthers is an excellent running game and could see their passing attack improve behind quarterback Matt Moore and the drafting of a wide receiver.

The injury to defensive tackle Peria Jerry exposed how thin they are at defensive tackle.

In the end as the saying goes offense wins games, but defense wins championships.

Will the Bills consider Culpepper?

Standard

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the biggest name for the quarterback position in the upcoming free agency period is Daunte Culpepper.

The question is will the Buffalo Bills consider signing Culpepper to be the starter in 2010.

Culpepper would fit the requirement of being veteran quarterback with past success.

Also, with the weapons that the Bills have at the skill positions on offense it would be the best situation on offense overall since he was with the Minnesota Vikings.

Also, it would allow the Bills to concentrate on offensive line in this April’s upcoming National Football League Draft.

In the end with offensive line being the foundation to the offense in general manager Buddy Nix’s eyes it is highly unlikely that the Bills will draft a quarterback in the first round.
