High Number of Chiefs Gone Not SurprisingPeter King of SI.com pointed out in his Monday Morning Quarterback column, which ProFootballTalk.com noticed, that 30 players on last years Kansas City Chiefs roster are gone since the arrival of general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Todd Haley earlier this year.
Simply, that is what happens when a new general manager takes over.
Most of the departures are from high priced veterans like tight end Tony Gonzalez and the fact that the Chiefs changed schemes on defense.
The Chiefs in 2008 were a 4-3 defense, but with the arrival of Pioli and Haley the team switched to a 3-4 defense.
Simply it makes no sense to keep personnel that fit a different scheme as when you use 4-3 defense players in a 3-4 you usually wind up with a disaster.
In the end the Chiefs are taking the right approach.
