Four is Company Five is a CrowdThe Buffalo Bills selected defensive end Aaron Maybin in the first round of this past April’s National Football League Draft. With the Bills also taking defensive end Chris Ellis in the third round of the 2007 draft the Bills are crowded at the defensive end.
Come training camp the question will be who is going to be the odd man out as the Bills will only keep four defensive ends on their roster.
Two player that are definitely going to be safe is Maybin and starting right defensive end Aaron Schobel who the Bills sorely missed last years as he missed most of the season due to a foot injury.
The other three defensive ends in Ellis, Chris Kelsay, and Ryan Denny will be battling for the last two roster spots.
Kelsay has the longer contracts between him and Denney as Denney will be a free agent after the 2009 season.
The Bills need one of the two to hold fill the starting defensive end position to allow Maybin to learn the Bills system and develop.
With Kelsay being the current starter at that position that means the Bills will keep him this year.
That means the last spot comes down to between Ellis and Denney.
The Bills know what they got in Denney, which is not much as he is averaging a little over three sacks a season.
That means near the end of training camp Denney will be given his walking papers, which is about time since he never lived up to the second round pick the Bills spent on him in the 2002 NFL Draft.
