Cheifs are Smart to Keep Thigpen

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Tyler Thigpen Showed a lot of promise last year.  Even though the Chiefs went out and got quarterback Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots they were smart to keep Thigpen.

Cassel came in last season replacing an injured Tom Brady when he blew out his knee in week one of the regular season.

Cassel took full advantage of the opportunity as he threw for 3,693 yards passing for 21 touchdowns 11 interceptions for a 89.4 quarterback rating.

The one big question that remains with Cassel is if he is a one year wonder?

Cassel in college and in the National Football League up till last season has been nothing more than a backup.

Also, Cassel is under contract for only one year as he was given the franchise tag by the Patriots, which the Cheifs have still not yet turned into a long term deal.

With Thigpen under contract thru the 2010 season if Cassel has a bad year, or unable to get a long term deal done, then they will be able to go back to Thigpen.

That should allow them not to miss a beat as he will know the offensive system with the Chiefs.

If Cassel does have a good season, and gets a long term deal done, then Thigpen will be traded after the 2009 season.

In any case having two good young quarterbacks in any case is a great dillemma to have as you never know what will happen in the NFL.

Hey after all who would of thought Brady would miss almost all of last year.
