Friday, April 24th, 2009

Buffalo Bills fans can breath a sigh of relief as Bills COO Russ Brandon told ESPN that they will not trade up and take the best player on their board at the 11th spot.  WOO HOO!!! Considering that they have a 90 percent chance of the pick being a Pro Bowler that is great news.
According to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, the Detroit Lions signed quarterback Matt Stafford to six year $78 million contract with $41.7 guaranteed.  If I am a team in the top ten I am taking the first deal with a first round pick to swap positions and a second round pick just to get out of the top ten.

Dolphins Should Go With Cornerback

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The Miami Dolphins are facing a big decision with their pick at 25th spot.  Their pick should be a cornerback.

The AFC East now have two teams that have dual threat wide receivers in the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills.

Also, cornerback Will Allen is in the last year of his deal.  Evem at 31 next year Allen will get a pretty sizeable contrac that the Dolphins will most likely not want to play.

This is the best route for the Dolphins to take, because there is always one cornerback near the end of the first round that turns out to be solid every year.

With Bill Parcells at the helm of the Miami Dolphins draft the Dolphins have a good shot at getting it right.

The good thing about cornerbacks is that they usually do not take long to develop into starters.

Their first year rookie cornerbacks serve as the nickle and dime cornerback, which seems some action each game.  Then in their second year they take over as the starter.

So, cornerback would be the ideal scenario for the Dolphins, but do not discount them trading down as they are still building.

Bills Have the Best Spot in the Draft

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

According to a article history is most likely repeating itself in the National Football League Draft.  If that is the case, then the Buffalo Bills have the best spot in the NFL Draft.
According to John Clayton of ESPN, the 2009 NFL Draft is already looking similar to the 2005 draft.  That is not good news for anyone that picks in it.

Of the player picked in the top ten in 2005 only two have made the Pro Bowl.  Them being Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards and Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown.

Both draft have no sure fire franchise player at the top, two quarterbacks that have holes, and the 2009 draft have three top tackles while the 2005 draft had three top running backs.

In the 2005 draft the top picks in the first round were Demarcus Ware and Shawne Merriman.

The best news for the Bills is that Ware was picked 11th overall by the Dallas Cowboys and Merriman was picked 12th overall by the San Diego Chargers.

If history repeats itself, and the Bills stay at the 11th pick, the Bills will have come out with one of the best players in the draft.

According to TMZ, former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith was busted for narcotics.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released their new uniforms today.

According to the New Orlenas Times-Picayune, Louisiana House speaker Jim Tucker does not want to rush a new deal to keep the Saints in New Orleans even if it means missing out hosting the 2013 Superbowl.  The reason is to make sure the deal is in the best interest of the taxpayers.  Really this needs time after the Saints were the only thing that kept New Orleans Saints residents sane after hurricane Katrina.

Ravens Need to Target Linebacker in Draft

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

The Baltimore Ravens took a major hit to its defense when it lost linebacker Bart Scott to free agency.  With the state their linebacker core is in it has to be the main focal point of the Ravens.

In addition to the loss of Scott the Ravens still have to sign linebacker Terrell Suggs to a long term deal.  The linebacker was franchised by the team, so for this year he will still be with the Ravens, but after the 2009 season it is anyone guess what will happen.

Also, there is linebacker Ray Lewis who is going to be 34 in May.  That most likely means that this is his last contract.

Currently, ESPN.com has Tavares Gooden is the replacement for Scott at the right inside linebacker spot.  Gooden only played in four games last year as a rookie.

The other current option is Brendon Ayanbadejo.  Ayanbadejo is 32 and and played in every game last year for the Ravens in a reserve role.

They definitely need to grab someone within the first three rounds of the draft.  Even grabbing a stater in round three is a possibility, because it is reported that this is a very deep draft.

With the New England Patriots also looking for linebackers, and loaded with draft picks in the first two rounds, it is most likely they will grab a linebacker with 26th pick overall.
Ravens fans shouldn’t fear, because they still have Ozzie Newsome at the helm and Newsome is one of the best in the business when it comes to the draft.

The Bills Will Not Move Down

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Buffalo Bills COO Russ Brandon at a pre-draft luncheon stated that the team would like to move down to get more picks.  That is not what is going to happen on draft day.

Bills fans need to remember one thing leading up to the Draft.  That is talk is cheap when it comes to the Draft as this is the period that teams lie to try and get an advantage.

The Bills will not move down for one simple reason and that is they go by their board and take the highest rated guy on their board no matter if he is a reach or not.

Bills Vice President of College Scouting Tom Modrak stated that he could see a team stepping up and taking tight end propect Brandon Pettigrew taken at the 11th pick overall.

Pettigrew by most draft experts have him rated as going to around the middle to late first round.  So, taking him at the 11th spot would be a reach.

The proof of this is in Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback column as he gave out stats of all 32 teams on how many trades they did up or down in the draft.

The Bills are only one of two teams that in the last five years have not traded down once.  The Bills have only traded up three times and are the fourth lowest team in the league in total number of trades.

The fact of the matter is that the Bills are dumber than the IQ of all Three Stooges combined when it comes to trades.  That was proven when the Bills traded Peters as the Bills could have easily gotten more from a team that coveted Peters as much as the Philadelphia Eagles did.

Simply, if the Bills do not have a good draft with players coming in and impacting right away, then it is time for a total house cleaning.

Bills Trading Wrong Wide Receiver

Monday, April 20th, 2009

It has been reported that the Buffalo Bills are attempting to trade wide receiver Roscoe Parrish.  Simply, they are trading the wrong player.

Parrish is under contract through 2011, which is longer than the player that should be traded.

The player is Josh Reed as Reed is entering the last year of his contract.

As valuable as Reed has been to the offense in the past his role is going to be greatly diminished with the signing of wide receiver Terrell Owens.

Also, Reed is also not as useful as Parrish is.  Parrish has been near the top in punt return yardage for the last couple of seasons.

Even Peter King of SI.com stated in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that Parrish is a dangerous weapon, and would be a mistake to trade.

The fact of the matter is that the front office is needing a house cleaning as they are proving to be inept.
