Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin has been wanting a new contract for a while.  Finally, the Cardinals are moving in the right direction.

Boldin wants to be paid like fellow wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald signed a four year $40 million deal with $30 million in guarantees in March of 2008.

The problem is that statistically Boldin did not have as many catches or yards per a season as Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald has had 90 plus catches each of the last two years, along with over 1,400 yards receiving each year.  Boldin has done neither.

With salaries escalating players near the top of their position are going to ask for record breaking deal.  The reason is so that the amount of money they make per a year is not half of what the next big deal is in three years.

The problem for the Cardinals is that they are cheap and they have an alternative in Steve Breaston at wide receiver.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt went on record as saying that the team would listen to all trade offers.   That is the right move for the team.

The Cardinals can easily get in return two first round draft picks that they could use to bolster their team.  Along with Breaston as a proven able replacement, the Cardinals would not miss Boldin.
