Cheifs patience should payoffThe Kansas City Chiefs have been quite in their search for a new general manger after owner Clark Hunt fired long time president and general mangers Carl Peterson. The Cheifs patience should pay off for them in the end.
The Chiefs had one other team that was positioning itself for New England Patriot vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli. That team was the Cleveland Browns, but they have dropped out of the race when they hired Eric Mangini as head coach.Â
The approach by the Chiefs is the way to go as they now have the pick of the litter. The reason being that a good general manager is going to find the right head coach no matter who is out there, and teams that jump on the big name head coach limits itself.Â
Also, the Cheifs are in a rebuilding process already, and Hunt realized that if he is going to get back to the top he needs to clean house. That became apparent when Peterson ran defensive end Jared Allen out of town.Â
A team can turn it around over nite with a solid quarterback, and good defense. To get those you need to sometime just startover, and that starts at the top with the general manager.
The reason being that a new general manager is going to bring in an objective point of view, and will have the ability to see that a player is not that good, but for some reason the previous regime, and head coaching staff just in love with the guy.
Rushing only leads to sloppiness, which leads to mistakes, and the Cheifs are far from that in thier search for a new general manger.
