Saints could sneak up on rest of the South
With the whole Brett Farve Green Bay Packers garbage going on people are forgetting about a team that could be major players in the NFC conference this year. That team is the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints have quietly made some big moves that has bolstered their team right away. Which, will push them near the top of the NFC.
First, the team acquired middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the Jets. The move bolsters their linebacking core, and run defending.
Then the Saints traded up to get Sederick Ellis. The move does two things.
First, it bolsters the run defense, because it will allow Vilma to run freely.
Secondly, if Ellis gets double teamed consistently on passing downs it will allow defensive ends Charles Grant, and Will Smith, to go one on one with blockers. That gives both ends a better chance at getting pressure, and sacks.
Then the icing on the cake. That being tight end Jeremy Shockey.
Shockey will get a lot of passes thrown to him as the second option in the passing game. Also, if he is killing teams, then defenses will double team him. Thus, leaving the Saints top wide receiver Marques Colston one on one with a defender.
In the end other teams better be on the lookout, because the Saints are going to be in their rear review mirrors looking to blow by them.
