Bills make the right move

Monday, May 19th, 2008

The Buffalo Bills have one big thing, in addition to signing their draft picks, left to do before the season.  That is getting Lee Evans signed to a long term deal.

The contract offer is a great bit of news to Bills fans.  After the Danny Briere and Chris Drury saga last year the last thing Buffalo fans want to hear is another key player walking away from one of their teams.

This is the one area that the Bills have always been good at.  Last year they redid the contract of Aaron Schobel, and also resigned Chris Kelsay.

The only thing that Bills fans can do is sit, wait, and hope that Evans will take the offer, or at least work something out by the start of training camp.

Bengals show poor judgement

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Many Cincinnat Bengal fans have been shaking their head over the situation that is going on with their starting wide receivers.  Well now they have another reason to be shaking their heads as linebacker Odell Thurman was cut today by the team.

Thurman was cut by the team for missing voluntary offseason team activities, according to the team.   That is where the problem is, becuase these minicamps have become pretty much mandatory when they are not suppose to be.

The fact of the matter is that the minicamps are a laughing stock.  Not only in addition have they become mandatory they also have become contact involved when they are not suppose to.

Thurman should be outraged by the whole matter.  Thurman’s grandmother passed away two weeks ago.  What they should be more concerned about is about Thurman’s general well being.  That is due in part to Thurman announcing that he is an alcoholic.

Every person grieves differently when it comes to the loss of a loved one.  Some people take longer than others.  For the Bengals to put a time frame on how long of an absence that he can have from the team is outrageous.  He should have been given all the time he needed.

For the most part the NFLPA has been pretty much quiet when it comes to this.  If it remains quiet then it shows how inept of a leader NFLPA president Gene Upshaw is.

However, if the NFLPA were to take action then it is a clear sign that a war is brewing.

As much as i hate to admitt this Upshaw is in every right to take the Bengals to the cleaners on this.  What they did they should pay for.

Lions show why they are losers

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

The Detroit Lions are a team that is a huge mess, and that being for a very good reason.  The reason is that front office employees do not give a care about even the fans.

In an email that was inadvertently sent a customer a Lions front office employee to another stated that their boss told him to “f**k him until next year.”  It is a glaring example of how the front office has no pulse for the city.

Lion fans for years now have been displaying their anger towards the organization.  Now, things should get to a even higher level with the email.

The one thing that should take an immediate hit is season tickey sales.  Sales have been not good, so the team created a partial seasom ticket to try and draw fans to games.  However, the opposite will not happen.

The only question is what will Lion fans do next?

Another bit of good news

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

In todays National Football League it is very hard to come across positive stories in the media.  At the Jacksonville Jaguars official website.  The team announced that safety Jamaal Fudge went back to school, and finished his degree.

According to the Jaguars website Fudge only needs two classes to graduate.  One is an internship that he will complete in the spring semester following the 2008 season.  The other he is taking this summer, and it is two and a half weeks long, which will meet six days a week.

Fudge went on to get head coach Jack Del Rio’s permission to take the course, because of new coordinator  Gregg Williams, and position coach Donnie Henderson, along with the rest of the team holding a voluntary minicamp when he is taking those course.

It is good to see someone get their heads on straight, and realize that football is not forever.  You will eventually have to do something when football life is over.

Young pictures bad news for Titan fans

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young have pictures circulating the internet of him topless.  While many Titan fans are going to cringe at the negative attention it will bring, however what fans need to worry is the decision making it displays.

The decision making process is one of the vital parts of being a quarterback in the National Football League.  What Young shows is that he is not capable of making sound decisions.

The news should not be a surprise at all to football fans.  At the Combine prior to the 2006 NFL Draft Young scored a six on the wonderlic test.  He went on to take it later, but only scored a 14 on the test.

Fans should hope that the pictures were just nothing more than a person show how immature he is.  For if the the pictures were a result of poor judgement then they can expect Young to flame out eventually.

49ers add another city to the mix

Friday, May 16th, 2008

The San Francisco 49ers have been working feverishly to get a stadium proposal in place.  Even to the point that the team has added a new city to the mix as another option.

Santa Clara, and San Francisco itself have been the main targets for a new stadium for the 49ers.  With the city of San Francisco having trouble reaching a deal with a theme park; the team has added the nearby city of Brisbane to the mix.

Brisbane curt manager said this about it according to the San Francisco Chronicle, “I told that if a stadium were to be reviewed, now would be the time to do that,” City Manager Clay Holstine said.

By the looks of it eventually something is going to get done soon.

Panthers taking a huge gamble

The Carolina Panthers learned last year that without Jake Delhomme they are not the same team.  Even with what they went through at quarterback last year they still have not picked up a decent backup quarterback.

The Panthers lost Delhomme for the season after he tore a ligament in his throwing elbow. Things got worst as backup quarterback David Carr was a disaster, and lets not forget grandpa Vinny Testaverde.

Both quarterbacks are gone leaving second year quarterbacks Matt Moore and Brett Basanez as the only quarterbacks behind Delhomme.  Obviously, the Panthers coaching staff feel that either could go in and do a decent job if called upon.

They could get away with that as they announced at their luncheon they will go back to a smash mouth football offensive philosiphy.  That was what they used to get to Superbowl XXXVIII.

In the end not signing a veteran backup quarterback could prove to be costly in the long run.

Saint fans will be keeping a close eye on the running backs

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush knows that he has to have a MVP type of season.  Even the fans will be keeping a close eye on news from minicamp as the Sun Hearld revealed that the running back situation is the top thing to watch at minicamp.

Saints fans are skeptical about Reggie Bush to the point that Larry Holder of the herald said this, “By kicking the tires on former league MVP Shaun Alexander, the Saints indicated they aren’t fully confident in their running back situation.”

However, the trend in the National Football League is to have two quality running backs.  The reason being to lighten the load on the starter, so that he is not wornout by December.

Holder’s instincts will be correct if McCallister, or anyone else besides Bush, gets the majority of running play snaps.  If that happens then Bush will most likely be a third down back again this season.

However, with Bush participating in workouts in New Orleans it is most likely that Bush will start to turn the corner.

Viking fans at the edge of their seat

The Minnesota Vikings have been trying to purchase some land from the Minnesota Star Tribune for months to no avail.  The Tribune set a this past tuesday as the deadline for bids on thier 12.4 acres of land.

There is still no word on who was the winning bidder, but you know that fans are hoping it is the Vikings.  Will it be is something that nobody can be sure of.

What will happen if the Vikings do not get the land? Nobody knows the answer to that question.  However. the Vikings will have to go back, and asses thier options.  Once that happens then the public will know what direction they are heading.

One thing for sure is that Vikings owner Zigy Wilf has to be getting fustrated with what is happening.  Once Wilf has had enough then it is almost likeliy the Vikings will move.

Spygate could be a distraction in to the season

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

 http://boomp3.com/listen/choza0l/kk-patriots-may-thirteenth

National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell and former New England Patriots video tape assistant Matt Walsh have met today at NFL headquarters.  Eventhough, the NFL is saying that Spygate is a dead issue it will still be a distraction into the season for them.

With Goodell concluding that there is no Superbowl walkthrough tape of the Rams their will now be a lawsuit.  The Boston Herald on February 2, 2008 reported that the Patriots taped the Saint Louis Rams walktrough before Superbowl XXXVI.

Now, there will most likely be a lawsuit by the Patriots against the Herald.  This will be an obvious distraction to the Patriot players, which would most likely be the younger ones.

With that and the always lingering specter of cheating the Patriots maybe finally on their downward slide towards being horrible again.   However, they do have Tom Brady, so it might not be that quick.
