No respect for the Bills

Friday, November 16th, 2007

With sunday being less than two days away experts are handing in their picks.  The one common theme from those picks is that the New England Patriots will crush the Buffalo Bills sunday nite.

The fact that everyone is picking the Patriots is not surprising at all.  The Patriots are 9-0 and are on pace to break all sorts of records.

It is the easy pick to make,  However, after Modnday Nite Football you never know what is going to happen.  Who would of thought that the Billd defense were going to pickoff Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo six times.

The fact is that Bills fans are the only crowd that can truly make a difference.  The reason for that is we realize that if we all scream loud enough the visiting team will have problems communicating.

Now, we are talking about the Patriots, who by all means  now are one of the best teams ever.

So, good luck Bills.

Shutting down Welker will be the key

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was a head scratching move during the offseason.  Since, the start of the season he has been a huge signing that has had a significant impact on the New England Patriots.

Many people think that shutting down Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, or quarterback Tom Brady, will be the key to beating with the Patriots.

Welker is the leading receiver on the team with 61 catches.  Moss, who has 56 catches, is second on the team to Welker.

The problem that comes up with stopping Welker is that the Bills do not have a reliable cornerback for their nickle package.  Their nickle corner for the upcoming game is Demitrius Butler who the Buffalo Bills signed due to injuries.

So, how will the Bills stop the Patriots passing game?  Well the obvious strategy would be blitz the Patriots, but that is not the defenses style of play.

The other person that the Bills will rely heavy upon is defensive end Aaron Schobel.  Schobel has been quiet in the sack department, but always has done well against the Patriots.

The other starting Bills defensive end Chris Kelsay was also give big money this offseason  Also, just like Schobel, has been quiet in the sack department for the most part.

However, Kelsay has contributed in other ways for the Bills, and that mainly being points scored off turnovers.  Kelsay last week recorded a safety against the Dolphins.  Earlier in the year Kelsay blocked a pass, caught it, and returned it for a touchdown.

The one last key in defeating the Patiots is the defensive tackles.  Kyle Williams and John McCargo  have recorded  two sacks, while Larry Tripplet has yet to record a sack.

If the Bills are to win sunday the defensive line will have to shut down the passing game.  Something that no team has yet to do.

With Lynch injured more weight falls on to Losman’s shoulders

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch is unlikely to play agaisnt the New England Patriots sunday night.  With Lynch out then it is on JP Losman to get the Bills a win sunday.

The one common theme from Bills fans is keep Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady off the field.  The best weapon for that was a solid running game with Lynch.

With Lynch injured more time will be given to rookie running back Dwayne Wright.  Who is in the same type of mold as Lynch, and that being a running back who is a threat out of the backfield.

Losman this week will need to keep the chains moving against the Patriots.   If the Bills do not limit the number of chances that the Patriots sees then it could get ugly quick.

The last time they met the Bills were blown out by the Patriots.  However, that was more due to the injury that Losman suffered early in the game.

The one weakness of Losman to date is his inability to find check down guys, and read the defense.  The Patriots are the best at disguising their defenses, and if Losman is going to defeat the Patriots he better become very good real fast.

The one real question is does he have audible control of the offense.  The Patriots with the extra week off will know the tendacies of the Bills, and if Losman is going to beat them then he needs to be able to get out of plays.

Many people beleive that may not be the case, and they have goo reason to be.  Especailly, after a running play last week was blown up when the Bills ran a play at a stacked defensive line.

Everyone in Buffalo knew that if the Bills were to run there it would be stuffed.  Long behold that is exactly what happened to the Bills.

The game is still a couple of days away, and you never know what will happen between know and sunday.  so lets all just pray Lynch will be good to go Sunday.

How to beat the Patriots

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

It is only tuesday, but the  50 million dollar question is already floating around.  That being what do the Buffalo Bills need to do to defeat the New England Patriots.

The task is dauting, and their biggest challenge to date for the season.  The challenge should ot be out of the Bills grasp after the kind of performance they gave on Monday Night Football.

The plan has to start with the offense.  The offense must keep Tom Brady off the field as much as possible.  At the same time the offense must take advantage of big play opportunities given by the Patriots defense.

The more important key of that is keeping Brady off the field.  They are so good, and if you give them an inch they will take a foot.

Unfortunately for the Bills clock control has not been one of Losman’s best attributes. What makes it even worst is that the coaches contribute to this problem at times.

The biggest example of that is calling a play before the clock ran out of time for half time.  Instaed of shortening the routes the coaches called a play that took too long to develop and it costed them to miss a field goal.

Defensively, the Bills need to make them look one dimensional. Yeah, the Patriots have many weapons, but taking away the running game will give the bils better odds of winning.

The special teams just have to do thier jobs, and not give up the big play  Afterall the Patriots have enough big play weapons on offense to overome any lead.

A Bills win lies in the hands of Losman. If Losman is ever to become a star quarterback he needs to be more consistent. Especially, against good teams like the Patriots.

Losman era soon to come to an end

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

The Buffalo Bills have pulled of a rare fourth quarter comeback.  That still will not save JP Losman’s spot as the future of the franchise.

Losman’s first half performance was the absolute worst of his career.  It was so bad that a rookie quarterback could have done no worst than Losman.

With the standard being the New England’s Tom Brady there is not a shadow of a doubt that Losman is not the future of the franchise.  Especially, with the lack of consistency that Losman provides.

Against any good National Footall League team the game would have been over by half time.  Fortunately, the Dolphins were the Bills opponent, and they definately do not know how to win.

Good quartebacks thrive against teams like this, and pad thier stats.  Average quarterbacks allow decent defenses to stop him.

The thing that bugs me the most is that the Dolphins befuddled JP Losman still in the second half, and that is with out Jason Taylor in the second half.

The one main problem that Losman has is his inability to check down to runningbacks, and audibling into better plays.  The biggest example of that is on a 3-1 the Dolphins had loaded up their defense where the Bills were going to run the ball, and still they ran the ball right there.

With that said one has to wonder what the heck is going on with the audibles.  The coaching staff in the preseason said Losman would be allowed to do that.  However, Losmans body language at the line of scrimmage shows no signs of that being true.

Now it could be that the coaching staff has allowed Losman to do that, but Losman just does not.  Whatever the case may be it does not bode well for Losman.

Marshawn Lynch had three catches yesterday, but with the way he was playing, and what the Dolphins were giving him he easily could have had somewhere between five to ten catches.

Also, it does not help that he has some how lost his running ability.  At some point in time you have to pull it down and run.  Heck even Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Rothlesberger had a running TD.

There are so many things that Losman could have utilized, but in the end he did not.

It does not help that tight end Michael Gaines dropped a sure touchdown, but still Losmans performance showed that he will not be the quarterback to take the Bills to the promise land.

A chance to step in the write direction

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

The Buffalo Bills can for the first time in several years could go above .500, which does not happen very often.  With the win the Bills could finally take a step in the right direction.

Mentally, the Bills could have called it quits on the season a long time ago, with the injury to Kevin Everett.  However, it has been the complete opposite as the Bills have clawed their way back to 4-4.

On top of the catastrophic injury the Bills have suffered various other major injuries to players.  With those injuries happening in bulk many of them wound up on injured reserve.

A significant amount of injuries to one unit can devestate it for an entire year.  With all of those injuries occuring to the defense, still the defense has gotten better throughout the year.

So, who can you attribute the turn around on the defense.  That squarely falls on to the defensive tackles shoulders. Since, the Bills started off to 0-3, allowing 177 yards per a game, the Bills have went 4-1, and allowing only 78 yards per a game.

Leading the way is defensive tackle John McCargo.  McCargo is finally showing why the Bills traded up to go get him.  Every game as of late he has been making several huge plays that have resulted in plays being blown up.

Also, give credit to defensive tackles Larry Tripplett and Kyle Williams. Both have also contributed with huge plays themselves.

They still do have a long way to go though.  The three of them only have two sacks on the season. At that pace they would only have four sacks total on the year, which is not good enough if you are going to beat good teams consistently.

The Miami Dolphins are the perfect measuring stick for the Bills to show off that their improved defense. Now, that doesn’t mean that the Dolphins will not put up a god fight.  for on any given sunday anyone can win.

Bills should not look past Dolphins

Friday, November 9th, 2007

In the National Football League anything can happen on any given sunday.  Especially when a team like the Buffalo Bills is alll banged up.

The Miami Dolphins may be 0-8, but with the Bills playing in Miami, Florida things may go the Miami Dolphins way.

The Bills did defeat the Cincinatti Bengals last sunday, and hled the running game to only 18 yards.  They also defeated a Baltimore Ravens team that has an exxeptionally good defense.

However, there is still doubt that they are a contender for the playoffs.  You can go back simply to weeks two, and three to see that the Bills were not that good on defense.  Also, the offense was pretty crappy to with what they accomplished those weeks.

It would be nice to soundly beat the Dolhpins for once.  The Bills always have problems with the Dolphins.

The most likely reason for that is the weather down there is hot, and humid.  Also, the ground there is at sea level which makes it harder to breathe for people.

This is a crucial game not just for the team, but for quarterback, JP Losman as well.  He still needs a good perfromance to hold onto the job for thereast of the season.

That should not be a problem, especaially with Jason Peters blocking his blind side.  Jason Peters has been quietly been having an outstanding season.  That will be great, because Peters will have to go up agaisnt Miami’s Jason Taylor.

With the New England Patriots being next week it can be easy for most of the Bills to look past this game. They will need to focus if they are going to beat the Dolphins.

Connolly’s contract is the ultimate demise

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

TIm Connoly has turned into a remarkable player.  That is when he can stay healthy.  The matter of the fact is that the gamble of Buffalo Sabres management has cost them any real shot at a Stanley cup in the near future.

At the time it Connoly’s contract was called fair, especially if he can stay healthy.  Well it has been proven now that he just cannot stay healthy enough to be a player to rely on.

The move leaves a horrible taste in Sabre fans mouths.  Tim Connoly was traded for former Buffalo Sabre Mike Peca.  Now it is the money that was tied up, and the hope that he would be healthy player, that costed Sabre fans their beloved Peca.

Peca stated clearly that he wanted to come home to Buffalo, and that he holds no grudge against current Sabres management.  However, the Sabres passed citing that they liked their team, and signing Peca would force them to get rid of someone

Obviously, that is one of the dumbest moves of all time.  The Sabres just lost their leaders to free agency, and could of gained one back next to nothing, and still said no.

The way the Sabres are playing they obviously miss their former captains, and even retaining one would make a huge difference.  However, they can only blame themselves for that.

Right now one person can make a difference by stepping up and calling a players meeting, but that is not going to happen.  For the current roster is a bunh of followers, and do not know how to lead.

You would imagine that someone in the locker room would of exploded already, and taken control of the team. Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later, because they need it right now if they are going too make the playoffs.

Connolly is not what the Sabre expected, and they are better off packaging him along with Ales Kotalik for a player that will lead them to glory.

Unfortunately, we are talkng about Darcy Regier here, and if something of that nature is going to happen it will not be till the trade deadline when it is too late.

So, please Darcy for our sanities sake make a move, and get a leader in here already.

Now is enough of the carousel

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

It has been a crazy season for the Buffalo Bills lead by the carousel at the quarterback position.  Now, is the time to be stopping the carousel, and figure things out.

Consistency is the key to becoming a great team.  However, consistency is something that the offense has lacked with the carousel at quarterback.

Change is the curse of the National Football League.  As soon as something goes wrong people want change.  Change at the quarterback, coach, or whatever it does no good if you keep on doing it.

After ten years or the carousel at the quarterback position it is time to finally solve it.  With the next month the Bills should commit to Losman for the near future to see what they got.

Losman has showed enough that he can be a potential star with coming up with some big games against weak oponents.  Now, is the time to step up, and pull off a great performance against a very good team.

That has been the achillies heal of the Bills.  They can out perform anybody that is a weak opponent, but when it comes to strong teams you can forget that they will get blown out everytime.

If Losman fails then they can at least fall back on quarterback Trent Edwards next year.  He has already shown signs of promise, and stardom.

However it may be people are just sick and tired of being spun aroung in circles over the quarterbacks.  All we want is ust one franchise quarterback for a while.

Is that to much to ask for? I do not think that is much at all.  Considering the kind of commitment that it has shown over the years by fans that is the least that they can do.

It is enough already let see what Losman has, and if he fails then get rid of him, and move on to the next, and so on and so forth.

strike up the carousel

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

With an immpressive performance against he Cincinatti Bengals JP Losman most likely bought himself another week as the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.  With the stats that Losman has piled up dick Juaron should be starting up the carousel one more time.

Losman was on the money most of the game.  Yes, he did make a few mistakes, but overall he did an awesome job..

Dick Juaron will have an interesting decision to make.  On one hand if he sits down Losman he will lose his players.  On the other hand if he does not stick to Edwards as his quarterback the fans will turn on him.

Losman should get another chance, and if he blows out the Miami Dolphins out of the water, then it should be be almost impossible to remove Losman.

So, let the waffling begin, afterall that is what Juaron does besy.
