Bills mortgaging the future

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

There was something disturbing today inn the Buffalo News, and that being the Bills contacted the San Diego Chargers about Michael Turner.  Turner is the back uo to Ladanian Tomlison.  Also, Turner would come at a huge price.

The price just to acquire Turner is going to be expenisive.  Turner was tendered at the highest possible level for a restricted free agent.  This was to hopefully avoid some poison pills.  So, just to acquire Turner in a trade will cost you a second round pick, or a first next year.

That is very disturbing from a trend point of view.  The current trend is that it is easier and less costly to get a back in the draft.  This draft is especially deep in backs this year.  Marshawn Lynch, or Adrian Peterson will do nicely.

There is one thing that needs to be calrified about the draft.  I have heard a lot lately on the internet, and the speakupwny forum, that the Bills are better off taking Patrick Willis pr Paul Pulslozny.  Okay you are going to have two rookies and one essentially still in his first year.  What they need is a veteran.

Communication is a key factor in the defense.  There is no doubt that Angelo Crowell will be a fine middle linebacker.  However, the Bills need someone still with more experience to help him along.  We have seen with the Patriots recently that with out Teddy Bruschi or Ted Johnson that communication is key.

May God help us if the Bills do not get a veteran linebacker.  Lets just say there might be a lot of blow assignemtns this yar.

The truth may set you free

It has been a long time since Pat Tillman’s death.  However, the truth about what appened that ill fated day has yet to be known.

The thing is that they have lied to the Tillman family at Pat’s funeral.  Listening to Jim Rome yesterday hearing his story as speaker of the ceremony was down right nasty.  Hearing from another soldier that they shot the guy in the head was disturbing.

How could a general or anyone get this wrong.  They knew Tillman was a publiv figure.  With that knowledge they shoule have handled the vase right from the start.

Tillman is a person that you should mold your kids to be.  He gave up millions of dollars just to be able to serve his country.  When he gave up his life he became immortal in out minds.

The family deserves an answer, after all  theiy had their son pay the ultimate price.  The least that the army could habe done is get his death right.

Coughlin needs to see a shrink

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Adolph Hitler is the face of evil, and deservedly so.  I once heard the painful story of a concetration camp survivor.  If a person is ever to compare themself they need to be fired imediately.  The sad thing is that it happened a couple days ago.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin compared to the criticism that Hitler got.  Who in their own right mind would bring that up.  I know that youmight be a little fustrated by all the negative comments.  However, you are a very public figure, and what you did is very offensive.  Those comments at best were stupid.

Undeservably or not, describing that one’s family was appauled and schocked is not easy.  The fact that you are trying to create sympathy by comparing yourself to Hitler is mind blowing.  It is going to befun watching even people like Bill Mahr pile on top of the soup nazi.  Thanks Profootballtalk for that nickname.

The Giants front office has a mess on their hands now.  With Michael Strahans divorce case.  To Eli Mannings inconsistent play.  To the comments that Coughlin spewedout of his mouth.  The damage is done and Willington Mara has to be spining in his grave.  Personally Coughlin you should be banned from the NFL for those comments.

Levy and coaches already under the hot seat

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Year two is a very important year in the development under a new coach.  Veterans, and last years rookie should be getting down the play book.  However, with the moves that the Buffalo Bills have made they are now under the microscope

The losses are no surprise to people.  London Fletcher-Baker, Nate Clements, Takeo Spikes, and Willis McGahee have all been subtracted from the team.  The question is now will those moves either help them or hurt them.  In the end a lack of experience will hurt them.

The additions that they have made should help them somewhat.  The Bills addressed needs that fans have been complaining about for years.  However, I disagree with how they got them, except Darwin walker.  Getting Walker in a trade with the eagles I think was okay. It also addresses a need at defensive tackle. The offensive line additions were very questionable.

Even last year in free agency Lecy made questionable moves by giving receivers Josh Reed and Peerless Price okay money.  Now this year there are a lot of mixed feelings amongts  people.  Mine are clear cut, and that is they will be sorry about this tade.  Spikes is a warrior and determined he will be fine.  Wlaker became expendable after the Phiadelphia Eagles drafted defensive tackle Broderick Bunkley.

Levy, an the rest are now under the hot seat.  They better be money under pressure, because now there is no excuse for Ralph Wilson not to be spending money.  The addition of revenue sharing should help them.  Time to show me the money Bills

Spikes tade to leave a hole in the defense

Monday, March 26th, 2007

I first must appolagize to all of you reading. I have started recently a new business, and over slept yesterday.

With the Buffalo Bills being close to trading linebacker Takeo Spikes, one has to wonder how are they going to fill the hole left.  The thing is that the most likely conclusion is a rookie, or a over the hill person.

The last thing that Bills fans wanted to see is another Eddie Robinson.  The fact being that they have not revealed a comprehensive sign on how they are going to replace Spikes is scary.  The are not many good players on the free agent market.  After Spikes the only real name out in the market is Al Wilson from the Denver Broncos, but he is not physically able to perform.

The likely replacment will be a first rounder.  That is a problem.  The Bills will have to trade up possibly for someone, and that is ridiculous.  They sit there at one Bills drive, and complain that there is no money.  Then go out there an over spend to the point that they have to trade potentially one of their best players.  Does this sound ass backwards to anyone else.

To strenthen the offensive line the Bills weakened their defense.  Unless the Bills all of a sudden reinvent the K-Gun it is going to be a long season.  On top of that Losman is going to have to consistently air it out, and will become the scapegoat of their problems.

The best way to help an offense is by becoming better defensively.  They were one of the worst against the run, and unless John Mckargo and Kyle Williams step it up big time the Bills could be one of the worst teams in the league.  If that happens hopefully they get the first pick in the draft, and actually use it. However, knowing how cheap they are uncle Ralphie might make them trade down.

There is no way to describe it better than the Bills situation then using a Tango and Cash movie line.  F.U.B.A.R. What is next they going to get rid of Aaron Schobel and Lee Evans too.

Mission impossible completed

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Yesterday’s game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs was a mind blower.  With a third period comback, after being down by three, everyone in Buffalo had to be stunned.  Yes, this team is good, but that was a Casey at the bat appearance, only they hit the home run.

We all knew the Sabres have their up and downs.  Also, they sometimes are never in a game, due to them not showing up.  Everyone in the building had to be saying great another blowout.

Then all of a sudden it happened.  A comback that was unbelieveable, one for a long time that will be remember.  Rick Jenarett line of they guys are good scary good definately describes them.

With Conolly back skating the fourth line could be Afinagonov, Kotalik, and Tim Connolly.  Talk about holy crao teams better watch out, because this teamwill be rested and ready to go for the playoffs. Here we come Lord Stanleys cup you are ours.

Peterson a bad fit for the Bills

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Arian Peterson up until recently has been mention in conjunction with the top ten in mock drafts, untill recently.  Today Don Banks of SI.com revealed that ge thinks the Bills would take Peterson.  The thing is Peterson is a horrible fit for the Bills.

I am just stunned by that prediction, and to be honest with you it makes me want to puke just thinking the Bills would take this guy.  Why, I will tell you why.  During the combine a family member was shot.  Instead of saying screw it and rush to see if the person was okay Peterson instead went through the Combine.  That is not the most appauling thing though.  In a interview with NFL Network Peterson was hamming it up like nothing ever happened.  This was reported by Pro Football Talk.

I do not care who you are or how you cope with things.  I love football, and I wanted to make the pro’s like a lot of people, but there are other ways to make up for having to miss the Combine.  Heck Brady Quinn skipped it and had a good pro day work out at South Bend, Indiana.   There is more than one way to skin a cat.

The fit would not be good with the Bills, and to be honest with you it would be like having Willis McGahee all over again.  After seeing Thruman back in town I was reminded of one thing.  Solid running backs are a dime a dozen.  Hall of famers are rare.  The best do not talk they walk.  They do not flap their gums.  Instead they turn their foot side ways and stick straight up you candy ass. Thanks for that line Rock.

They do have a log term solution that could be a gamble.  Former Louisville running back Michael Bush has to undergoe a second procedure for a injury.  Most likey he would cost you nothing. With the Bills continuing to pursue running back Chris Borwn that is more likely the answer.  It is worth the risk, heck it is only going to cost you a little money.  Oops that is right we have penny pinching uncle scrooge as a owner.

Bills stupidity costs them an upgrade.

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

One of the tools in deleoping a team is using free agency to build your team up.  With a weak free agent market former Indiapolis Colt’s weak side linebacker Cato June got a contract that the Bills could have easily matched.

The report is on June’s contract, reported by Pro Football Talk, is that June’s contract gave him a two million dollar signing bonus, one million base salary, and a two million dollar roster bonus.  Totaling for this year five million.  Good free agent linebackers get a five million base salary.

The fact is that the Bills blew it.  They lost Fletcher-Baker to free agency, and Takeo Spikes ability is in question.  Yes, they do have Keith Ellison, but they could have saved him to replace Spikes if he is not the old TKO.

I could not believe it when I saw the report.  A guy on a Superbowl winning team getting a contract like that.  That is why you save your money in free agency, because there is always one quality player that fall in free agency, and becomes a steal.

There is one huge glarring problem with this organization, and that is foresight.  For some reason they cannot be content with looking down the road.  This has been the same philosophy, since Bill Polian was fired.  The problem is pretty eveident, and that is Ralph Wilson.  I hate to say it Mr. Wilson, but you are not getting that Lomabadi trophy before you pass away.  The only way is do something out of a In Living Color skit.  Instead of Bob Hope it would be keep ralph alive.

Texans gave up too much

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

The Buffalo Bills deal years ago for Rob Johnson sent a first round pick.  Then in turn Johnson got five million dollars.  Looking back at the deal today, compared to the Matt Schaub deal, it was a steal.

The deal for Matt Schaub a 2007 second round draft pick, a second round pick in the 2008 draft, and swapping spots in the first round.  Talk about desperate, but holy crap.  Schaub looked okay in filling in for Vick, but that trade is ridiculous.  The Texans felt that they had no choice, but to go after Schaub.  Since, they could not get Plummer.

The deal itself is a sign of ineptitude of the houston organization itself.  Brady Quinn could have easily been there at the number eight spot.  Quinn did not work out at the combine. Also, with looking at the draft order the top five, only Oakland needs a quarterback.  Washington and Minnesota maybe, but Houston could have traded up.

What has happened to the National Football League? I can tell you you the fans have put so much pressure on the front office to perform.  With that much pressure teams feel that they have to make a blockbuster move to satisfy the fans.  Unfortunately teams have not learned that they need to look the other way.  Yes, fans have the right to critique your performance, but come on you mean to tell me that all fans are smarter than you front office people.

Well it looks like we are now smarter than you front office people.  After all we know how to get you people to do someting.  Keep complaing and voicing  your opinion.  Keep it up people you done well.

Let it be Cookie

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Growing up in Buffalo, NY there has been one common theme that I heard a lot when it came to the Buffalo Bills.  That theme is that Cookie Gilchrist is the best Buffalo Bill ever to put on the uniform.  However, Cookie needs to let things go before it is too late.

Recently as reported in Larry Felser’s article that Gilchrist has cancer.  I hope for and pray for the best.  I know how it is to have a sick partent, and a family member with cancer.

My aunt had cancer a few years ago, and so has an uncle.  It is a scary thing.  Even though it does not take much to relize that everything in life means soemthing becomes even more important.

Gilchrist for years has held resentment that Ralph Wilson did not pay him more.  I understand his point, but just for one day Cookie let it be.  Let that resentment go, and let the fans say thank you for what you have done for this team.  Feel the appreciation and the love.  Something that no amount of money can ever beat.
